      MandyMummy:
Students who take triple sciences usually take H2 Maths and thus they can only take H1 humanities, usually H1 econs (unless they take KI) Their timetable for year 5 is super scary because all subjects begin in first term and juggling between all subjects and PW is no joke. Furthermore they have to take 3 SPA for all 3 sciences at almost the same time. As most H3 subjects start after promo exam or in year 6, students would have cleared their PW and would have more time for their 12th unit. Also, taking H3 subjects would allow differentiation of the abilities of students and is a criteria for some

scholarships. That's why students who are willing to take triple sciences are not that many and not many IP schools offer triple science subject combination. I know HCI does offer but RI does not offer anymore.
      Hi! What is SPA? Thanks!

It is School-based Science Practical Assessment. It has a weightage of 15% of the A level H2 Science Exam.

The School-Based Science Practical Assessment (SPA) will take place over an appropriate period that the candidates are offering the subject. There are two compulsory assessments which will assess appropriate aspects of objectives C1 to C5 in the following skill areas:
          Manipulation, measurement and observation (MMO)
Presentation of data and observations (PDO)
          Analysis, conclusions and evaluation (ACE)
Each assessment assesses these three skill areas MMO, PDO and ACE, which may not be necessarily equally weighted, to a total of 20 marks. The range of marks for the three skill areas are as follows: MMO, 4–8 marks; PDO, 4–8; ACE, 8–10 marks.
The assessment of PDO and ACE may also include questions on data-analysis which do not require practical equipment and apparatus. Candidates will not be permitted to refer to books and laboratory
          notebooks during the assessment.

Yes, the P knows more than us.

It is pointless to do triple Sc nowadays. The prob is which 2 Sc subjects to take, noting RV encourages Chem as one, which means we are left with either Phy or Bio.

I wonder if this is inline with other IP schools.

I was thrilled when the P mentioned that we should not compare our revised curriculum with a non-IP sch (as suggested by a parent) but with a \"good\" IP sch 🙂
I wont say it is pointless to do triple science in yr3.... though, yes, one will have to drop 1 science when comes to yr5.

If the school removes this option of triple sci, it is not an advantage to pupils who are strong N have passion in science n maths as
without this option, these pupils would have \"to be forced\" to take up 2 humantities subj instead of 1.
In addition, it gives the pupils the opportunity to explore the other 2 sciences (physics and bio)
so as to be able to select one of their liking when comes to yr 5.

Hi. I assume that you are interested in calculating a Y1-4 results since GPA is adopted for these 4 years.

                Firstly, understand that
                (score range) (grade) (grade pts)
                =>85 A1* = 5.0
                75-84 A1 = 4.0
                70-74 A2 = 3.5
                65-69 B3 = 3.0
                60-65 B4 = 2.5
                55-59 C5 = 2.0
                50-54 C6 = 1.5
                45-49 D7 = 1.0
                40-44 E8 = 0.5
                <40 F9 = 0

                For the Y1/Y2: ELA +HCL + Geog + Hist + Sci + Math
Add up the grade points and divide by 6. Tada! GPA!

For the Y3/4: ELA + HCL + Math + Math + CID + 1 Humanities (Geog or Hist or E-lit or C-lit or SCS) + 1 Science (Bio or Phy or Chem) + 1 Best (the best out of the remaining subjects that have yet been counted)
Add the grade points and divide by 8. Tada! GPA!

A1*= 4.0 when it comes to exam exemption scheming.

                Hope this helps!

Show my gal the above, she was salivating :please: at the way RV GPA is ranked.
Indeed , there are much grievance amongst the dunmanians wrt to their GPA computation. 🤷

Do you mind to explain why? Is RV method of calculating GPA \"better\" compared to other schools? How do other schools calculate their GPA?

If you see from humanities subjects point of views, you can take 2 and select one of their liking when they reach yr5. Wheareas students that took triple sciences will have no such \"luxury\" when it come to their choice of humanities subject.

Triple Sc combi is still a popular choice in many schools for Y3 – including the “good” IP sch.

Do you know how many Y3 triple Sc classes does the P plan to limit?
