Hello everyone! My elder son was from HGP, he's in Victoria, going to Sec 3 next year. My girl is from HGP, she's the girl with 275! I must share with all parents that my 2 children were indeed very fortunate to study at HGP. My son helped out in the P6 kayaking expedition this year. He had so much fun that he would be going back to help out next year.peakpeak:

My girl had a wonderful form teacher. She taught them from P5. She was very dedicated, always giving them extra notes, encouragement and advice. Unfortunately, she was too ill to teach them when she fell sick in June. Mrs James was very thougtful to assign all the subject HODs to take the class. Of course, that meant that the HODs all had additional workload from July to Oct. Many thanks to the HODs!
Although my girl's teacher was sick, she made it a point to visit her students when she was better. She visited the class every morning during the PSLE to give them the good luck 'charm', chocolates. She made it a point to give the weaker students double good luck 'charm'.
The only day she could not make it was on the day of the science paper as she had to go for treatment, but she got her colleagues to give her students the chocolates.
She also went back to school to meet her students on 26 Nov. She was of course very proud of her students.
Many thanks to Mdm Goh from the bottom of our hearts, wishing you good health and happiness. -
Congratulation to you and your girl!! 275 is really well done! and thank you for sharing

I feel happy for my son who is with HGP as I strongly believe good school environment and value of the school is very important for a child.
Do you mind to share with the score of 275, which school is your daughter going next? -

Thank you, I'm very happy with her results too. I'm sure the principal and teachers at HGP will continue to strive towards academic excellence for all the students.Congratulation to you and your girl!! 275 is really well done! and thank you for sharing

My girl has been admitted to Raffles Girls' School (Sec) under the DSA, Talent Development Programme (Music).
The top scorer of HGP also went to RGS last year. With a score of 275, she was streamed into the Gifted Education Programme class in RGS.
Thanks for the concern, all the best to your son. Eh... which level is your son in? -

By the way, is the top scorer this year a boy? hahahaha.... I'm curious because most of the scorer are girls lah

Phew![/quote]She's a girl, her mom's from China but her dad is a local I think. She's going to NUS High through DSA too. The 3rd in school, is a boy with 270. His sister came in 2nd last year with 274.
You'll be happy to know then that the top scorer in 2007 is a boy, 272, my husband's ex colleague.
Top scorer in 2006 is also a boy, 268, my son's ex yamaha music classmate.
If you notice, PSLE top scorers are mostly girls, as most girls tend to mature earlier, and are by nature neater, hence cutting down careless mistakes. But come o and a levels, it'll be a different story, most of the time.
I always believe that children are born like a blank piece of paper. How beautiful and colourful this piece of paper will turn out depends on how much effort the parents are willing to put in!
It's good for the school to stream, so that the better ones can progress faster, and the slow ones can learn at a slower pace to build a better foundation. And with a strong foundation, the late bloomers will have a better chance to succeed later in life too!
Now that your son is in the top 25%, aim for the top 10%, cos usually only the top 10% of the school cohort will go on to score 250 and above.
Good luck! -

I do agree with you on the streaming. I believe my active son will benefit from it. -
Hi, my son will be in P1 at HGP next year. He is very excited !! My gal will be in P3 next year. Managed to get within the top 10% this year. That’s the target we set. New parents can rest assure that their teacher are very nice & devoted with the children. Their new principal Mrs James is also very responsive & always seen talking the students. She response very fast our concern via email. Overall, it’s a good school, at least my childre is happy going to school everyday.

my dotter was born in 2006… so im doing my ‘homework’ now and finding out more about primary schools around my area.
1) Does HGPS place heavy emphasis on academic or does it believe more on experiential learning and learning thru explore and adventure?
2) Is there a lot of homework, worksheets, books, etc? Or is it more hands-on kindda projects?
3) Noticed that there is an outdoor adventure club… anyone can share what kids of activities do they do in this club? -

Hi..my boy is also in Pri 1 this year and i also like the idea for the pri 1 segegrated from the upper pri...hougang mum:
heard from one of the teachers that it will be single session from 2011 hopefully but not in 2010. my dd2 will also be in P1 next year.

I noticed they cut down 2 classes from 300 seats to 240 seats this year. Perhaps this is a transition to single session.
But honestly, I like my boy being in afternoon session... segegrated from upper primary. So he only mix with his peers and have their own assembly session and such...
