      Hi I need help on this question. Please help, thanks in advance.

      Miss Lee baked some pies to sell at a fun fair. 4/5 of them were beef pies while the rest were chicken pies. At the end of the fun fair, she sold 100 chicken pies and 7/8 of the beef pies. 1/6 of the pies remained unsold. If each pie cost $2.50, how much did Miss Lee collect from the sale of the pies?

      1/6 x 10 u = 1 2/3 u

      1 2/3 u - 1 u --> 2/3 u [C unsold]

      2 u - 2/3 u = 1 1/3 u ---> 100 [C sold]
      1 u ---> 100 x 3/4 = 75

      7 u ---> 7 x 75 = 525

      525 + 100 = 625

      625 x 2.50 = $1562.50

      She collected $1562.50.

        Please help to solve the below questions.


        1. Richard drove Cindy from Village X to Village Y at a constant speed of 60km/h.
        From Village Y, Cindy walked 7km to Village Z at a speed of 4km/h.
        From Village Y, Richard turned back to Village X to pick James up.
        He drove along the same route at a constant speed of 60km/h to meet Cindy
        at Village Z.
        They reached Village Z at the same time.
        Find the distance beween Village X and Village Z.

        2. There were 124 adults in a hall. When 5/8 of the men and 4/7 of the women left the hall, the total number of men and women who remained became 48. How many men were there in the hall at first?

        3. Katy had a number of 20-cent coins and Jeremy had a number of 50-cent coins. Katy had 18 more coins than Jeremy but Jeremy had $8.10 more than Katy. express, to the nearest percent, the amount of money Katy had as a percentage of the amount of money Jeremy had.

        4.alicia and Bruce are given some money each. If Alicia spends three times as much as Bruce,She will have $1000 more when Bruce has spent all his money. If alicia spends half of what Bruce spends, she will have $2200 when Bruce has spent all his money. What is the total sum of money given to Alicia and Bruce?

          Thanks alot tianzhu. I had managed to get E+G=228 but didn't know if it was right. Now after your zoning, I can see how you dissected the figure to get the difference between E & F. I was also trying to work my way to get F but thought how is it possible when P6 haven't even learn Trigonometry.

            You’re welcome.

            No trigonometry has been used. All is within the syllabus.

            First find the difference of E+G-F, then take away G ( the area of the semi circle G).

            228 ----- E + G - F, not E + G

              R : B = 2 : 3 = 8 : 12 --- [to get whole number for 25% of Blue]

              25/100 x 12 = 3 u

              8 + 12 = 20 u

              20 u + 2 p ---> 1686

              8 + 3 = 11 u

              11 u + 1 p --> 922
              22 u + 2 p --> 2 x 922 = 1844

              2 u ---> 1844 - 1686 = 158

              B: 12 u ---> 158/2 x 12 = 948

              There were 948 blue marbles.


              2)

              T [][ 550 ]

              S [][350][][350][][350][][350][350]
              T [][350]

              4 u + 5 x 350 ---> 3 u + 4 x 550
              1 u ---> 2200 - 1750 = 450

              3 x 450 + 4 x 550 = 3550

              Sam has $3550.

                When you are encountering these type of problems,it does not necessarily have to find the two shaded parts.Tianzhu workings was more like of grouping to me.You can find shaded parts by canceling the same unshaded parts in the figure which is part of the shaded parts.For example,you can find the difference in area of the shaded parts by taking away part G from the figure .Then,you subtract area e+a - a+f.The difference between them is the answer as the extra parts a would be cancelled off automatically.

                  4 children decide to weigh themselves 3 at a time. Only 4 different readings were repeatedly recorded:
                  99.5kg, 108.1kg, 111.7kg and 116.3kg.
                  Find the total mass of the heaviest and lightest child?
                  Ans: 74.6kg

                      Nan Hua prelim 2011, Q15.


                      A car left Town A at 0800 and travelled to Town B at an average speed of 60 km/h. At the same time, a lorry left Town B for Town A. At 1130, the car and the lorry were 85km apart after passing each other eralier. If the car arrived at Town B at 1300, at what time would the lorry arrive at Town A?

                      Answer is 1400, but seems that it’s not right.

                        Need some guide on these two questions, thanks in advance

                        1) Andy can dig a hole in 3 hours.
                        Peter can dig a similar hole in 2 hours.
                        Roslan can dig a similar hole in 6 hours.
                        Fariq can dig a similar hole in 4 hours.
                        If they all worked together at their own speed, how long would it take to dig a hole?

                        2) There were 1200 peope in Room A and Room B. 30% of the 800 people in Room A were women. 40% of the people in Room B were men. After some people in both rooms had changed rooms, 25% of the people in Room A and 75% of the people in Room B were women. How many people were there in Room A after the change?
