      spring:
And for tracing, u mention finger tracing n pre writing, is it necessary to teach her both or jus pre writing?

Depends on how old your child is and how much you willing
to invest in these pre-writing and pre-reading materials for
your child. Did you mention how old your child was or did i
      actually forget?

Pre-writing materials no need to invest much. All I did was get a nice big pen suitable for my boy to grip and hold properly. He does not like pencils as he often sees me using the pen and loves pens.

Print FREE worksheets online or just create your own. I did that to save money and I photocopy many sets because my boy likes to repeat and repeat and repeat something if he enjoys it. My maid will even take a drawing block, use pencil to lightly draw shapes for him to trace with a marker (he also loves markers, esp whiteboard markers).

Now we’re trying to let him get used to the idea of writing properly in a book. Got exercise books from popular (extra large squares). Starting off with him tracing the squares. Then moved to him drawing his own triangles and tracing circles which my maid drew for him in pencil.

Now he can write some alphabets on his own without help. Although not terribly perfect, but it’s still quite neat. We explicitly taught him how to write A - G by making him trace, then he figured out the other letters through looking at the letters & trying out. Of cos I correct him if he gets the strokes wrong, but other than that, he likes writing alot.

Before I knew about Letterland, I actually made up my own songs to teach him the strokes. I used XL square exercise books to teach him, without any fancy pictures. Like for ‘B’, we sang, "From the top to the bottom, jump back up and bounce & a bigger bounce!" Sometimes we use our fingers to draw in the air. Sometimes we use our feet to draw in the air. The most hilarious one was when my sis suggested to use to bum and he really tried.

Now he makes up his own songs to write the alphabets although he is taking phonics lessons using Letterland system.

            Hi Buds

Sori, i was referring to switching him to letterland, not leapfrog..
How is the letter L and F pronounced in montessori?
He is learning phonics in school where they teach him \"L\" pronounced as \"Ler\", completely different from leapfrog. i wonder which is the correct one?

            buds:
            Uhmm? :?

I dunno if i understand you correctly...
You mentioned you just purchased a Leapfrog Phonics DVD.
Then at the last part you mentioned uhhmm switching to Leapfrog?
Ermm.. i was wondering why you were referring to the same thing?
            Please correct my blurness.. :?:

I'd be happy to assist you with the pronunciation part if you'd share
with me which are the sounds you have doubts about. Currently, which
Phonics methodology is your child learning? Is it from his school or the
one you're reinforcing at home with him?

Okie, roger that spring.. I got
              loads of DIY. Especially

And do bring down the knowledge
              to nannies, maids or grandparents
              wherever possible. Especially if they

The single letter sound of \"l\" is pronounced as lingering \"l\" sound,
when you press the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth,
at the soft gum space behind your 2 front teeth.. It should sound
like the one in Starfall. > http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/letter-l/load.htm?f

It should make the same sound at the end of the word ball... doll.... sell...
If it's pronounced as \"ler\", then when we drag the sounds of d...o...l...l...
you would get dol-ler? So, soft lllll... sound, okie sunset_dae. 😄
