      Anyone can help me with these S&T Qs with explanations ?

      Q He did not let her in. He refused to tell her the reason.
      A1 He did not let her in, yet refused to tell her the reason.
      A2 He did not let her in, yet refusing to tell her the reason.

      Q I Woke up. I had breakfast. I went to work.
      A1 After I woke up, I had my breakfast and went to work.
      A2 After waking up, I had my breakfast and then I went to work.

      Q I know Jessie. He knows Jessie. Sally does not know Jessie.
      A1 Both he and I know Jessie, but Sally does not.
      A2 Both he and I know Jessie, but Sally does not know her.

      Q He graduated from Harvard. This raised him above many men of his own age and rank.

        A) "Come here! Didn’t you realise that I ____for you for the past hour?" exclaimed Mrs Ho.

        1) waited
        2) was waiting
        3) have waited
        4) had been waiting

        B) Mr Lee ______ far when he realised that he did not lock his house door.

        1) did not drive
        2) has not driven
        3) had not driven
        4) was not driving

              I am not sure should the correct answer for B be 3.

                  The scold in the ans shldnt be a past tense right?

                    Yes. It shouldn't be in past tense as the verb that \"holds\" the tense in this case is 'did' thus the following verb 'scold' should be in the infinitive form.

                      Problem with approaching it in this manner, is that when enough people start writing plots written by others it becomes a cliche. The best way round this, it to have your DS/DD to start reading good story books instead of model compositions.

                      I personally feel that reading model compositions only have a limited usage, as it only helps pupils who have extreme difficulty expressing their ideas. They can use the models as a spring board to help them craft their writing, but ultimately they need to quickly learn how to express their ideas in an original manner.

                      Too often, pupils who learn to write from model compositions sound like they are produced from a factory line, no personality, no originality... If time is on your side, encourage your DD/DS read widely first, then start experimenting in expressing his/her ideas in his/her own words. All this is based on the assumption that he/she is not taking the paper this year...
