Question: Why does one find it acceptable to be criticized by netizen and not by a minister? -

BeContented, :hi5: ... My dd also same same. The night before Oral, she made sure her shoes were white by putting some coat of white shoe shine (herself) and she trimmed her nails too. Usually she ties her long hair but on that day, she requested me to help her plait and tie properly to ensure that she will be neat and tidy.
My FT taught me so well that after more than 40 years I can still remember and so even months before the Oral exams (during practices) would emphasize to my P6 students to create that first impression to score with their examiners. Some thought that I'm being paranoid cos they either didn't hear it from their teachers yet or their teachers didn't tell them. :imcool: So maybe his tutor also didn't tell him or he forgot also.
:hi5:BeContented:
When a person has a closed mind, never will register. When a person thinks that she is correct, nobody can convince her that she's wrong. She will never see the light, period.
Her way of bringing up her son is really :faint: What is she teaching him? That is fine if you are forgetful? Since he's forgetful, he's not responsible for his actions? So, if her son's boss tell him that he has to bank in a large amount of cash but he lose the money cos he forgot where he put it, it's alright? It's the boss' fault for getting him to go to the bank and shouldn't give her son such great responsibility?
If I were her, I won't let the teacher to have a chance to cut my son's hair in the first place. Unless she's not educated, I'm sure she knows that first impression counts. I can even remember how my form teacher kept reminding the class to create a good impression during our PSLE oral.
Didn't she take PSLE also? Grooming is very important for such occasions. I would constantly remind my sons to get their haircut before the teachers considered it long. If they ignore my reminders and get a warning or free haircut from their teachers, they know that they deserve it. Complaining to me would have me rubbing salt to their wounds.
I remembered DS on the day of his oral.
He chose the cleanest uniform, combed and requested help to put some hair gel for him, and in car.....he adjusted the seat belt and bag such that it would not cause any crease on his uniform. Way beyond my usual standard ie. short and clean hair/nails.
Amused, I asked him how come he is sooooo concerned....he told me....'Teacher has reminded the class to be neat and tidy to give a good impression' to the oral examiner.

I read that she contacted ST herself.Another never-ending story.
Moral of the story, don't use the media wrongly then it won't come back and haunt us. In the first place, when the case was reported to the police, how did the media \"get wind\" of it? Anyone knows? -

Haircut boy's mother responds, says she's disappointed case highlighted
The mother at the centre of a row over a teacher cutting her son's hair has said she is disappointed that the case was highlighted by Education Minister Heng Swee Keat.
In his annual Work Plan Seminar speech last week, Mr Heng cited Madam Serene Ong's complaint to the police about a teacher who cut her son's hair as a reason teachers \"often feel anxious about dealing with demanding parents\".
Responding, the 39-year-old sales manager told The Straits Times: \"Mr Heng didn't even speak to me to understand the entire situation.\"
While it is fine to be criticised by netizens, it is not so when the minister does it, she said.
