Nothing is wrong for putting kids into some sort of test here and there.
How about parents who put their kids into IQ test, to know what IQ points their kids belong to.
Living in Singapore must have competitive mentality. In other words adopt the same title as this forum. -
I have no issue with parents who want to send their kids for whatever tests they deem necessary. It’s their choice.
If there are kindies that test kids, I will choose those that do not. -

looking at the rate now, there are already quite a few English learning centres that put K1 and K2 children up for entry assessment test(s). Only if the child can pass the test(s) well, then they offer kid to take up their enrichment programme.Nothing is wrong for putting kids into some sort of test here and there.

example:-
============
i)
The \"Write Place\" at Jurong East request K1 kindergarten kids (5 years old) to take an assessment entry test. Only the better ones from the test results produced can enter into their K2 level English Writing programme.
furthermore, parents need to pay a very expensive hefty fee, just to let their K1 kids take a 1.5 hours English test , to assess suitability entry into their K2 English enrichment programme(s), for only limited scarce vacancies.
:yikes: In fact, a long snake queue had already been formed for this! Minimal waiting period is at least half a year. I was shocked when i rang up to inquire how much they're charging K1 kids, just to take that assessment test.
ii)
Learning Point also need K1 kids take an entry asssessment too.
only difference is LP no need to pay, whereas \"Write Place\" assessment test is ex!
thus, going forward if you ask -
will there come a day in future where all K2 kids need to take a common entry test esp. for Primary 1 registration into the hot, popular schools, just like what US is doing now - who knows ? Then MOE will do away with all the phases from Phase 1 to Phase 2C, and all the murmur, grumbling, complaint(s) that kids staying less than 1 km from hot, popular school like Nanyang, Henry Park, Rosyth, Ai Tong, Catholic High, etc - fail to get in.
it may not happen now during our kids' generation.
but 20 or 30 years later, who know ?
it may happen to our grandchildren generation. -
5-year old kids have their own paper to attempt. It is not like 5 year old kid ask to do 10-year-old test, right?
-
Guess these centers are teaching advanced stuff or else they will not test the kids to make sure they can understand and keep up with the materials.

The assessment test paper that this \"Write Place\" request 5 year old K1 kids is of ... high standard.
can be equivalent to Primary 1 English standard. -
it is up to individual preference whether they want advance stuff or not.
They are people who really take part in every tests and appreciate advance stuff for their kids.
The test is transparent, whether take or not to take.
Why so scare of competition? kids not competitive enough then ’ jia you’, don’t lose out in the society when the population reaches 6M. -

Putting the charges for these tests aside, it makes sense for these centres to have entry tests.thus, going forward if you ask -

Eg, The Write Place focus mainly on building up writing skill. If the kids do not have some level of competency in the English language, it'll be difficult for the centre to enhance his writing skill. Certainly one need to at least have a good grasp on grammar and vocab before he can write well. -

I cannot speak for other parents. I'm not scare of my kids dealing with competition. We are not competing with the potential of 6 mil pple. It's a gobal competition.it is up to individual preference whether they want advance stuff or not.

I have my reasons for not going with kindies that test kids.
