All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers
-
Through years of teaching piano to children, I noticed children find scales practicing monotonous and it has been a challenge to have them practice the scales. Through test run with my own students, and constantly adjusting to their needs and feedbacks, I found a way to help children play their scales effectively, and my students are loving it now!

Hi,
i am thinking of letting my 4 yr old boy learn piano.
i have a few questions and hope someone can help to answer.
-should i send to a school or to have a teacher coming or going to her place to learn
-can we get a keyboard first and test water the child interest? cos i dont want to have a white elephant in the house.
-anyone has contact of teacher to recommend?i staying in the east. can email me at [email protected]
-do we go teacher's place or teacher come our place?
- what is the current rate?
Thank you
Then I would suggest group lessons (more fun for a young child) to expose him to piano & music lessons. You can get a keyboard at home in the meantime.
My dd used to attend Seimpi group lessons at Parkway but that particular center moved. You might want to browse Seimpi website for updates.
After converting dd to individual lessons, we started shopping for a piano. She used a keyboard for the initial 10.5 months of music lessons.
Thus, after confirming your ds interest in pursuing piano, you can start shopping for a piano and search for a piano teacher to coach 1 to 1. Whether teacher goes to your place or you go to hers really depends on that teacher's preference. I guess it's more important is to engage the right teacher.
My DS started learning piano about 6mths ago (1-1) and the tchr has suggested getting a piano instead of continuing with the keyboard. How do you go about choosing/buying a 2nd-hand piano and how much did it cost you? I prefer not to spend a big amount on that as I am still not sure if DS can substain his interest for long.
Thanks. -
A 2ndhand piano can range from a few hundred to a few thousand. A student of mine got hers from Salvation Army for only $200! Not a fantastic piano, even for 2ndhand standard but it is playable and good enough for a beginner. There are many 2ndhand piano shops in Sโpore, most important thing is that the people selling you are trustworthy. Or you need to bring along someone who knows how to select to go along with you.

haha - not bad hor s$200. Even the 3rd hand piano my mum bought for me almost 40yrs ago was already S$400. It got increasingly lousier as the years went by, but I still used it all the way until grade 8 and only replaced that piano when I got married and bought a piano for my own house - 2nd hand for S$2.3k back then - gee, 20yrs ago already. -
Getting a piano is the biggest hurdle for me now. much as I really hope to introduce piano to my child, he may not be as enthu as me. It will be a hassle to having bought a piano and end up, he doesnโt like it. How?

Give the child a good piano, and it's likely the child will enjoy playing it. With a keyboard or lousy sounding piano, how to expect child to enjoy the music or take it seriously?
