Any working mums thinking of furthering your qualifications?
-
Interesting, as for myself, being able to study and further myself gives me a sense of achievement apart from my kids. So it does give self satisfaction to what I can accomplish rather than a step up in terms of career. Not to forget the added knowledge
Maybe I am \"greedy\" or \"selfish\" in a sense, where I want to have that time for my kids and help them be it studies or being a better mum but I do want that allocated time to better myself.
I am hoping when I do get to study (that is when I save up the $55k :rotflmao:), we can have our revisions together , like a study group just different levels. -
i'm not going for any government uni, this sma opposite bras basah is the first time i hear of them... do u hv any advice? how to chk if their courses are recognised?
verykiasumummy,
whatever you do, pls make sure the degree is recognised. Otherwise you are wasting your time and $ doing it. I am unsure if there is a statutory board that can confirm if your degree is recognise by them. if stat board recognises it, I suppose it should be fine. Make sure you do your due diligence and not trust the private school's comments.
I cleared my professional paper just before my 1st child arrive. I recalled going to JB for a revision paper as a famous UK lecturer was conducting revision classes there. Did that when I was heavily pregnant as I wanted so badly to clear a particular paper.... Fortunately I did it....
Contemplated doing a MBA couple of years ago on co. sponsorship. Comes with a bond... well not bad huh given that job is insecure nowadays... But at this point of life (with a P5 and P4), I felt that I rather dedicate my time to their education. So what if I have a MBA, does that value add??? Probably makes no diff... Sometimes I thought maybe I will do it when they go to sec school.... but but... my P1 will be P4 by the time my no. 2 goes to sec 1. And there we go again....
Is there a statutory board that recognised qualifications in singapore? I dun think so. According to what i know, sg does not have a central authority for cert recognition.
Who can confirm this?
According to Public Service Division, a degree is recognized in Singapore if it is from a University accredited by the government of the country where the uni is situation. To confirm, do google for the respective country's government linked web sites for more details. HTH. -

Accounting - ACCA is still the most recognised I gathered.
Does the Public Service have a list of recognised degrees awarded by universities located outside of Singapore?
There is no central government authority that assesses or accords recognition to degrees for employment purposes. In general, degrees from universities accredited by the home government of the country where the university originates will be considered for appointment into the Public Service. This applies to degrees obtained full-time or part time, through distance-learning or twinning programmes, etc. In addition, for professional qualifications, the degrees obtained from local or foreign institutions must be recognised by the relevant professional bodies in Singapore to be considered for employment into the Public Service.

verykiasumummy, which cert would you be aiming for? That would be an easier question to answer.
The professional certs are determined by each board in Singapore. It is a huge list out there but I reframed from listing from Professional Engineers to Martime to Accounting to Project Management. -

Actually I am unsure too.Hi mmm,

Who can confirm this?
I was \"told\" long time ago that if a uni is part of ACU (Association of Commonwealth Uni) it should be accepted by stat board... But I really dunno how true and if such standard still holds... It has been 15 years????
For other subjects like accountancy, this can be verified with ICPAS. They published a list of uni/ professional bodies that can be accepted as Spore CPA. So if the uni is one of those, it's fine. -
