i'm still pondering over whether the qualification is recognised... it seems getting nowhere... am i supposed to call any prospective future employer to ask if the cert is recognised?verykiasumummy:
i'm not going for any government uni, this sma opposite bras basah is the first time i hear of them... do u hv any advice? how to chk if their courses are recognised?
verykiasumummy,
whatever you do, pls make sure the degree is recognised. Otherwise you are wasting your time and $ doing it. I am unsure if there is a statutory board that can confirm if your degree is recognise by them. if stat board recognises it, I suppose it should be fine. Make sure you do your due diligence and not trust the private school's comments.
I cleared my professional paper just before my 1st child arrive. I recalled going to JB for a revision paper as a famous UK lecturer was conducting revision classes there. Did that when I was heavily pregnant as I wanted so badly to clear a particular paper.... Fortunately I did it....
Contemplated doing a MBA couple of years ago on co. sponsorship. Comes with a bond... well not bad huh given that job is insecure nowadays... But at this point of life (with a P5 and P4), I felt that I rather dedicate my time to their education. So what if I have a MBA, does that value add??? Probably makes no diff... Sometimes I thought maybe I will do it when they go to sec school.... but but... my P1 will be P4 by the time my no. 2 goes to sec 1. And there we go again.... -
verykiasumummy, which cert would you be aiming for? That would be an easier question to answer.
The professional certs are determined by each board in Singapore. It is a huge list out there but I reframed from listing from Professional Engineers to Martime to Accounting to Project Management. -

2nd choice : postgrad in education by uni of sheffield (hopefully accept me)
3rd choice : bachelor in marketing by murdoch uni (will accept since i met entry requirements)
4th choice : bachelor hr management by mordoch uni (will accept since i met entry requirements)
i'm more keen towards the education one but dunno if they will accept me. 3rd and 4th is either or also doesnt matter... -

Actually I am unsure too.Hi mmm,
Is there a statutory board that recognised qualifications in singapore? I dun think so. According to what i know, sg does not have a central authority for cert recognition.
Who can confirm this?
I was \"told\" long time ago that if a uni is part of ACU (Association of Commonwealth Uni) it should be accepted by stat board... But I really dunno how true and if such standard still holds... It has been 15 years????
For other subjects like accountancy, this can be verified with ICPAS. They published a list of uni/ professional bodies that can be accepted as Spore CPA. So if the uni is one of those, it's fine. -

verykiasumummy, I realised that your selected area of studies vary. Education versus marketing and hr management...
I observed that usually when we are in a job and we get a degree, companies might be less sticky about the uni (eg. if you have proven your capabilities). So if they promote you accordingly, your new title can be used a basis for the new role. The next company will usually not pay much attention on where your degree is from as they are recruiting based on experience. But yes, I've come across roles whereby if the person does not have a degree, their promotion is hindered. So the degree in this case is a basic requisite.
Personally, it depends on the profession and I am unsure if you already have a bachelor. Some profession, it's not advisable to skip the bachelor stage and move to masters. There are some grounding in the bachelor stage that is actually important. Eg. accounting. If someone has a masters in accounting but never go through bachelor level, the technical knowledge might be shaky as they probably did not cover indepth on tax, etc... -

For folks with interest in accounting, propose to check ICPAS published list. There are many uni/ bodies other than ACCA where you can qualify as a Spore CPA.Accounting - ACCA is still the most recognised I gathered.

Our local universities offers very comprehensive part time and full time masters programme. There’s also huge subsidies for citizens and PR - good to make use of this, right? I feel that there’s an unspoken preference amongst the employers for local uni certs, or those direct from overseas; compared to distant learning programmes.

Thanks MMM, what I listed is what I was told by those around me. that even with an accountancy degree, having ACCA adds more value
