Secondary School Selection 2012
-
Anyone know if the school’s COP is example said 250, will all students 250 and above who selected this school will be posted?
Anyone can share if there is scenario as follows?
if there are only 10 vacancies left for 250 and there are 50 applicants having the same results of 250 and select the same school, how does the school select the 10 students with 50 applicants? -

The actual Tscore (not released to us) will have decimal points and the top 10 of the 50 will secure a place.Anyone know if the school's COP is example said 250, will all students 250 and above who selected this school will be posted?

That is why it's not \"safe\" to put a school where a child just meets the COP as the 1st and even 2nd choice. They might either get the 5th or 6th choice or even none of the six. -

Regards to above discussion on 'Posting of Schools', if yr child just meet the COP of that sch, don't hesitate to place it as yr First Choice. As sch allocation is based on Merit n not 'First Come First Served Basis', even if the child doesn't get in, he/she can still appeal.
By placing that sch as the first choice, it shows sincerity and the eagerness of child want'g to get into the sch.
Certain Schs only allow appeal when child has placed them as first choice. -

These 50 applicants will still be ranked by their score. All P6 cohort students who sat for PSLE - their results are stored in centralized MOE database. Schools can retrieve anytime from computer, for information access.
even if child put it down as 1st choice, however in the event other pupils are way before this child in terms of PSLE score (ALL P6 students' score results are ranked to the infinite number of decimal points), this child may not be able to go in. Others with a higher / better PSLE score will enter first. At the very most, this child is placed on a wait list to appeal .... -

Some schools with affiliation have increased the COP from 200 to 220...with immediate effect.Unfortunately, even though 250 is not easy to get, that score will not even give you a glimmer of hope of getting into the top secondary schools if you have no affiliation. :scared:
If I could do it all over again, I would get dd into a primary school with affiliation. -
220 is still very far away from … 250

Agree.
I guess many are not aiming at that 220 range. It's those 250 & above good schools -
I must be the odd mummy, I'm aiming for COP 230s sec school. Yes I know there are a number of yrs before 2017.

I love the idea of a safety net. But I will want my daughter to do better than 220 hopefully. -

No. Not odd at all
I sincerely believe you understand your own child's abilities and know what is best for your dc.
Frankly, I was looking at 23x-25x schools initially. If I push DS really hard, DS might hit 26x....not sure also. But then, what will be the consequences if he hothouse into those top schools? Demoralised & unable to catch up in such competitive environment. Will he be happy? I think it will be a painful process for everyone.
When DS cleared round 1 of all his DSA....naturally I got all excited again, our expectation shot up & I forgot all about his innate abilities...haha  Our top choice was HCI & that was the only one who rejected him. So once again, I was knocked back into reality - DS is not that calibre....at least not yet? Must be positive lah, only 12yo....late bloomer maybe kekeke
For us, we are gonna accept one of the COs. If he does well in PSLE (good enough to enter HCI), we will of course be disappointed but since I now know where he stands.....it may be a blessing in disguise
To me, aim at the child's level....as they improve, we can always adjust accordingly based on their capabilities and what's best for them. For my DD, at P1, I would gauge her as 21x-23x. At P3, I saw hope at 22x-24x. Now at P5, I see some possibility at 24x - 25x......you still have a few more years :rahrah:
