GEP 2012 - Screening & Selection

if undiscovered, how to know who they are? how to extend support to them?Melodies:
Yes, I'm asking for additional resources to be allocated to the mainstreamers (those who are 'very gifted' but were not selected and also with no helps but themselves and textbook!)
Hmmm... so we should have a sub-GEP category for said very-gifted-yet-suay-therefore-undiscovered gems who don't have much external support? How about those gifted kids who are not selected but lucky enough to have the support? -
Nebbermind:
Tell that to a high ability child with no access to tuition nor supplementary materials from his school. 3 years with only textbooks to learn from can mean the difference between NA and Express. Of course there is nothing wrong with NA but why should a capable child end up there just because he lacks access to learning material?
They may appear to miss out but in reality, it's only for 3 yrs.Melodies:

Actually, if they are truly gifted, they can figure out those materials themselves eventually.. I personally have seen \"these\" type of students before... -

But that's coz the school or teachers are under par n gep may solve your problem but not THE problem.

FQW... this is the 2nd time your fair mindedness impresses me. Instead of digging into a position, you really examine the arguments and weigh each.
This post makes absolute sense to me. Thanks for sharing.Melodies:

How come I dont seem to understand some of posts too. :? I think as a parent, it is impt to know tt to be in gep does not mean that yr child's future is 前途无量; not selected does not mean the child 前途无亮 too. It maybe a blessing in disguise. Just my own view.

I agree with you. I am not looking to GEP to solve a mainstream problem. I am just puzzled that HSK said that class size in mainstream does not contribute to mainstream teaching quality... but it is necessary for GEP teaching quality.

GEP clouds this mainstream issue... I dun really care whether it is good to get in blah blah... mainstream has a problem and we dun need the GEP to solve it. -

Glad u agree! I also donch understand why class size remains the same as during our era.
I also think we are trying to squeeze too much into our primary school kids so much so that the teachers can only teach with little interaction. It’s just too dry, like some boring sermon…it can no longer be this way…must go the charismatic way…everyone rah rah happy happy… -
If MOE could afford to do for every class what they do for GEP, they would have done it already. Very easy to say make every class like GEP. Who's gonna pay for it?I have never asked for policies crafted for the hyper kiasu in mind (me included!) I'm asking for a policy to cater for the majority population especially for those disadvantaged families.
Ah, I see. Pardon if I don't care for policies crafted for the hyper kiasu in mind.3Boys:
It has nothing to do whether I think the current GEP program is a good route or not! I'm supper 'kiasu' and wanted to have a much better alternative route (based on my standard) for my dc and yet get to enjoy childhood.
Sorry for stating an 'unseemly' reality.
