I have came across this question:

The clown performed funny tricks and made the children _______ loudly.
1) laugh 2) laughs 3) laughed 4) laughing

Should it be laughed or laugh?

laugh

Thanks. What is the explanation that we can tell our kid? Because, kid will claim that sentence has all the past tense words.
Yes, I would like to know which grammar rule that applied in such patterns: made me think, made me look, made me cry, made me smile... Because I need to discuss with my son's teacher about this.... TQ

Hi Lexmark,

\"laugh\" is the correct answer.
Make / Made / Help are causative verbs.

So the correct sentence structure is

Subject + Make + Person + Base Form of Verb

http://esl.about.com/od/grammarstructures/a/causative.htm

Hope this helps...

hi have a question on Tag Questions.

This dog belongs to my neighbour,________ it?

1)does 2)doesn't 3)is 4)isn't

The answer given by DS's teacher is (4). Just wondering is (2) also acceptable? A bit confused on the rule here:

If i rephrase the sentence as follow:

\"This dog (does) belong to my neighbour, ..... (doesnt) it ?

Or should it be rephrased as \"this dog (is) my neighbour's, isnt it?

Thanks
:?

Answer should be (2) doesn't , because of simple present verb \"belongs\".

Please see this link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/grammar/learnit/learnitv208.shtml
The relevant section:
\"When present and past simple tenses appear in positive statements, normally no auxiliary verb is used, but we use the auxiliaries does, do or did in the tag. In negative statements in the present or past simple, the auxiliaries doesn't, don't or didn't are, of course, already present. Compare the following:

You play tennis on Thursdays usually, don't you?

And Jack plays with you, doesn't he?

You didn't play last Thursday, did you?\"

Regards,
Xiaohu

Time to get a feel of P3 English.

My daughter has always been weak in question tags.
