School Teachers Working as Tutors

I know of a teacher who tutors at a well-known centre for 2 hours a week. Some tuition centres have good materials or teaching process that might help/inspire the teacher in her normal work.
do moe teachers need tuition centres to \"inspire\" them?? -
if the moe teachers are with tuition centres, i think they need to first inform the centre of the sch that they are teaching, so that the centre will not take in any students from that sch to avoid the conflict??
but if they are teaching private home tuition, they may only know the school of the student after they meet up… i think that will just be a little embarrassing… i could imagine that… -

sooner or later, the enthusiastic and motivated school teachers will just lose their passion for teaching in school … there is no way MOE can keep up with the pay that school teachers earn while moonlighting as tutors! i checked and found out that teachers are allowed to give private tuition BUT not allowed to advertise their services and not allowed to teach at tuition centers. but there are still so many tuition centers openly advertising their services… is MOE closing "one-eye"?

yes, the money is good when they moonlight as compared to being a teacher...MOE should ban teachers from giving tuition completely. -
Hard to ban them lah…there are people who are always willing to pay a premium to have these current teachers to coach their children one on one

This is Singapore - if the government wanted to ban it they could. -
I’m saying banning it doesn’t make it impossible for the parents to seek teachers to coach their children. It can easily be reframed like this: Parents ask teacher to come to their house for visit. Teacher also help the children in their work. Parents give teacher ‘ang bao’ for their time and dedication. In the end, it just went underground.
Perhaps to encourage teachers not to give tuition, a few things can be done:
1. Peg the KPI of teachers to how many students needed external tuition
2. Reduce the admin work load of teachers so they can do a better job teaching in school
3. Reduce the class size further
4. Reduce the frequency of exams. Increase the weightage of class presentations, project work etc that focuses on non-academic subjects
5. Increase the pay of teachers
That should remove the motivation of the teachers to go the tuition road, instead of a straightforward but un-enforceable law to ban them from tutoring.
