Dear dasalo , Pixie 28, kaka, lyhparent & all,

Who have patiently listened to my dilema and replied in the most detailed manner. Thanks for your time and advice. In the end, we all decided to give up SOTA. In fact, I was the one who felt most disappointed after all it means giving up a golden opportunity. My girl told me that art may not be the only thing she will enjoy (likes music currently too) and did not want an intensive art programme. We all sat down for several heart to heart discussions and at every point, I kept asking her \"you sure? no turning back, you know?\" She said \"yes.\"

So now it's back to praying 🙏 for favourable psle results to gain entry into a good all girl school in our vinicity...nope, not RGS or the likes - not that kind of \"WAHHH\" standard. I will be happy if she does art at 'O' level but if she does not want in future, then too bad. I will just look back on the day when she received her VA CO from SOTA and keep that fond memory.

This may be the last time I talk in this forum and commune with all you helpful and nice people. I hope I can find strong supportive parents like you which ever secondary school she is finally posted to.

Best wishes to you and your children,
      :thankyou:
      melteo

          Hi melteo

Thank you for yr well wishes. Sad to know that yr dd has given up her place in sota. Ultimately she would be the one studying so I guess she has to be the one to make that final decision. All the best to both of you hopefully she’ll get into an equally good school that she’ll be happy in.

            PROUDY MUM:
            Dear All

My DD is thinking of selecting SOTA Dance Faculty instead of her other 2 CO from PRESTIGIOUS main stream school ,
will the Y1 students face difficulties with the changes after 6 yrs in the main stream school and habits ?
Where does you daughter want to go ..... that's the most important question. At SOTA there is the accelerated program for the academically inclined if your girl is suited to it. Our daughter is in Yr 3, and has just submitted her subject combo for Yr 4, she was offered Accelerated Math.

Our daughter was happy to get into SOTA Dance and the academic work while different from mainstream schools, will be tough if the child does not work consistently, does not read enough, or does not learn how to priorities the time ...... same for any secondary school. Bright kids will survive anywhere, at any secondary school ........ it's just a matter of deciding which is the best fit in terms of school culture and the child's needs.

Dance is the toughest Faculty at SOTA, with the longest hours ......... but LOTS of opportunities and exposure if your child makes the effort. If your child dances well and is academically above average, it is an advantage.

Proudy Mum : your message was posted just ahead of mine. Glad your daughter made her choice, as long as she is happy. Dance requires a strong commitment, she might not be ready for it.

There's a dance showcase this wed, wonder if yr dd is performing? Or is it only for Yr 1/2 students?

We're looking forward to the dance showcase!

Thanks for setting me straight ! 😂

Yes I will be at the Dance Showcase this evening. As far as I know, it's Yrs 2, 3 and 4. My daughter is in the Chinese Dance, they are Yr 3.

JRLam - the tickets were balloted and given out via the students for their families. The showcase is similar to a year end concert and usually only to students and families.
