There has been a stream of parents asking

where i bought some of my books, especially
the nice Sue Graves Pull & Learn Phonics books.
Recently, a trip to Jurong Point's John Little had
me uncovering a new find from the same author.

It is this Scholastic - Fun With Phonics series.

Cat. The book also contains some sight

The books are beautifully illustrated by Jan Smith making
every page a delightful and colourful read for young children.

The Fun With Phonics books come with a Spell Wheel on the right.
The books aren't exactly hardcover, but the cover pages are hard
like thick vanguard material.

The right side of the book has a small panel space imprinted with
the phonetic words with the vowel /a/ sounds in them. It serves
like a word list of all the words that has been covered in the book
as a recap/revision from what has been read by the child. The
rhyming story is designed to develop literacy skills through fun
repetition.

Other titles i manage to get were, Jen the Hen, Dog in the Fog
and Bug in a Rug.

There wasn't any more of the /i/ book available in the wagon sadly..
So, if anyone has chanced upon it elsewhere do post up here so i
can get it to complete my series.

I never got the flashcard thingy. I found it so boring, and so did DS1, so I didnt even try it with DD2

I have flashcards, mummy of two.

But i dun use it ala Shichida fast
flash carding. I use them to show
and introduce new themes & take
time to do activities in relation to
the individual themes.

Flashcards is but a tool. It is how
we use the tool that plays a part
in nurturing the learning.

Yup, I was just showing the flashcards to DS1 and he was not interested. Neither was I -gave up after a few attempts. Guess we prefer learning in context. Showing flashcard alone doesn't seem to work hee. Like what you mentioned, using flashcard in relation to themes will make it more meaningful. Now, why didin't I think of that :?

sounds of the letters and introduction to letter shape is done
simultaneously...

Yupz... will be lookin forward to ur montessori diy presentation... learning letter sound and finger tracing at one time...

Hahaha.... e part where you say ur dd1 being seen by you of taking out e montessori material doing tracing n say out letter sound is so funny... :lol: so young her lil character already showing....

Also thanks for ur pre-writing ideas... will try to let my dd do (got too many things for mummy to prepare)

Lastly, for e mystery bag game, is it more for e introduction of letter name or letter sound?
