      Ex-teacher .......

      How do parents verify?
How do parents know if this teacher is good?
How do parents verify how many years of experience the ex-teacher has?
How do parents know if this ex-teacher is experienced in PSLE marking & has done it before?
How do parents know if the dx-teacher is up-to-date with syllabus & changes??

There is soooooo many 'how???' in my mind.
there is no way to chk as a parent, even when it is thru word of mouth... u may not be sure that if the parent who recommend this teacher was also taken in?

that's why i always have the mindset that no matter how high or qualified the teacher is, most impt is know how to teach my dc...
i wouldnt want a tutor who trains the top psle student but doesnt know how to teach my dc effectively...

if more parents could think it this way, we will not face the problem of having to pay high price for current of ex sch teachers... we only pay high price for good tutors, regardless of whether they are or were teachers..

        agree agree agree....

when i meant is that, wouldnt school teachers who are also giving tuition now choose to quit from their positions and become ex-sch teachers so that they can earn those big bucks? that would mean moe needs to employ more new teachers, and still need to give training and they are not guaranteed passionate still.. after some yrs of teaching, they are good in it and den quit again to become ex-sch teachers to earn big bucks...

are we solving the problem or creating another problem???
I am a full-time tutor. I have friends who are teachers. Most complained about the huge amount of admin work they have to do. I think if benefits for teachers are better, reduce the admin work, etc.. Not many teachers will quit to become ex-school teachers/tutors. Being school teachers is a more stable job than tutors. Being tutors, we also face some problems like students anyhow cancel lessons and/or owing tuition fees.

it is true to a certain extent, but those big bucks we are talking about can far cover those that they lose... i see some threads here mentioning $80/hr, $100/hr. say 1 week work 30hrs, 1 mth will be $12k... wow...

I’m not sure but if many teachers just quit to become ex-teachers, then there will be a time where supply is more than the demand.

                  unlikely...

gd teachers will never be more than willing-to-pay parents...

It's not surprising that more ex-teachers are becoming full time tutors due to push and pull factors. However, a full time tutor must be passionate and love teaching to have a sustainable tutoring career. Good tutors will have positive word of mouth as long as they continue their dedicated teachings and always keep the well being of all their students in mind. The bad or unethical ones will not be able to sustain as their students are not motivated or interested in their lessons, and sooner or later they will realise that students and parents are smart enough to find better alternatives.

By the way, I'll always strive to be a patient and dedicated full time tutor. I'm not an ex-teacher but I believe I possess the right knowledge and passion to share my teachings around. I'm a low profile tutor who enjoys sharing my personal opinion and views in KSP forum. My students and their parents will know best 😉

Haha. Then isn't it better for us parents? Now they have to \"fight\" to perform better instead of just making use of the current school teachers name.

                        Let me tell you something.

I had a school teacher teach my son English last year...she is un-pro. She doesn't even know what to teach my son :slapshead: Told my hubby she is worst than those in tuition centres  Went through all the work after each lesson and that made my blood boil. Hubby advised me to give her a chance...I was like, 'What? $80 for nothing constructive and ask what to teach before each lesson?' NO way am I going to waste $80 like that !!!
Then what is she teaching in school?
