Hi Janet, suggest waiting until you know which school your DS is going to. I was assuming that DD needed a bigger ergonomic bag too... Until I met a girl from the school DD will be going to (via DSA). They have lockers and carry a light load - mainly a tablet. Even then, I'll still wait for the school to confirm. Not sure if year ones will also have lockers.

I thought secondary school will have more books, so thought of getting one sturdy one for him. The other option is trade in his old SPI bag and get new one...they do have trade-ins and new one costs cheaper...his present SPI lasted 4 years. Thanks...will wait for school posting to get his bag...that should be the last item.

For girls, they like Jansport or similar. For boys, they like the sporty brands. .....

Really? :oops: didn't know that...thought of trading in old one.

Since his present SPI served him well for 4 years, that should be reliable.
I will wait until I have bought his new books and uniform before deciding on his bag. Like going to school for P1, except that it's not...instead it's Sec 1.

I notice most secondary/JC students carry very nice, trendy and sporty school bags. In fact their bags look pretty light without many books. I suspect their bags are more of a fashion statement to them. Likewise for school shoes, a lot of them wear white Converse shoes as school shoes. I think it’s a good idea as they are more lasting and trendy compared to ordinary school shoes.


Yes, one more thing, make sure we get shoes with shoestrings instead of the Velcro type…by Sec 1, the kids should have out grown shoes with Velcro!

NO MORE velcro type of shoes...they have to grow up...learn to tie shoe laces. Velcro is for P1s.

DD has 2 pairs of white shoes since P2...one velcro and one with shoe laces. Velcro one is strictly reserved for days with PE just in case the laces become undone during PE and she ended up tripping herself.

My daughter has both shoe lace and Velcro type of shoes...son wore Velcro type until P4...then I realized he doesn't know how to tie shoe laces.
Sec 1 Liao...have to wear big boy shoes.

You will be surprised half of my DS’s P6 classmates still wear shoes with velcro. My DS has worn shoes with shoes laces since P5. He feels the designs look so much better and it gives him a grown-up feel. It also make him look cool. Guess these young people are really Conscious of their image now. Have to be very careful with the type of school bags we buy for them now. Best that the DCs choose the bags themselves.


I guess the next thing is haircut! These are signs that our DCs are indeed growing up to be young men and ladies. Some of my friends’ DDs asked for their hair to be rebonded. Hmmmm…

Shoes must look nice, school bag must be cool.
