GEP 2012 - Screening & Selection

JAR:
My boy's form teacher just called to inform that my boy got into GEP. I've just returned from his school to pick him home and now I need to make a trip back to his school to pickup the package.jtoh:
I guess those GEP schools will receive 1st as they will need to know how many of their own students are in and hence how many vacancies available. For the rest, enjoy your weekend.
Non-GEP schools would also need to know how many of their own students qualified and hence the number of vacancies created.
The issue now is to convince him to take up the offer.
:congrats: -

Hi parents who are experts in GEP:
How do we determine if our child is able to enjoy and survive in the GEP stream?
My P3 gal is from NYPS- just got news today that she got into GEP. I did not do any prep for her to take the 2 GEP tests (too busy as a FTWM). She is very hard working, self motivated and quite smart (but not brilliant out of this word braininess type)…
If I ask her, she would WANT 100% to go to GEP, but I do not want her to suffer and do badly in class (assuming kids in her GEP class will be fast and bright learners)…
Perhaps I should speak to her form teacher about this? I rather she enjoy her P4-P6 interacting with regular kids than to be under constant daily pressure to perform…
What do parents who have kids in GEP streams have to say?? Greatly appreciate any inputs… -
I would also like to know if GEP kids get any "preferred" admission into sec schools e.g. just being in GEP stream does that count as a DSA criteria???
If there is no benefit of GEP getting into sec schools, then why do parents want their kids to go to GEP stream? For broader curriculum and learning solely??? -

, I know some of GEP schools are preferred more than others. My questions is for Indian PR ( whose native language is neither Chinese/Malay or Tamil) are there any other specific consideration in selecting the GEP school. I think SAP school only offer Chinese as mother Tongue. So are SAP GEP school out of bound whose mother tongue is not Chinese…
Not so. If your ds is taking an Indian language on Saturdays, and gets into GEP, he will continue going to Saturday school.
If he is currently taking an Indian language Mon-Fri in his own school, then then you could either select a school which has that language (parallel programme) or start going to Saturday school.
my DS is currently taking an indian language in his own school. Does any body know which GEP school offers Hindi as a language in the school itself ? -

Of the GEP schools, RGPS, St Hilda's, HPPS and Rosyth have the parallel Hindi programme. You can check the latest list of primary schools covered by the http://www.hindisociety.com/ and http://davschool.edu.sg/parallel_schools.html on their web sites.
