but those who went for selection but didn't get in should receive a small envelop mah...there should be a closure, ya?

Thank you for your participation? ... Like those from lucky draw tickets? :rotflmao:

Certificate of participation, like what my DS got ๐Ÿ˜‰

He very cool about it, a couple of students in his class apparently cried when they failed to make the cut.

But I think some of the kids certainly feel the pressure. A few of them in the class had GEP prep I believe.

Well, all 2nd hand info from DS. A couple of kids got in, a couple of kids cried, and a few had divulged they had GEP prep. I don't know the correlation or lack thereof between these 3 groups.

From experience, my eldest who did not get in 2 years ago, received the 'thank you for participation' slip many days later after her classmates who were selected got the yellow envelopes. She said a couple of friends cried so she told them 'No need to cry. We are gifted in other areas, just that these areas are not tested' Haha!

This year, my #2 got selected and got the yellow envelope last Fri. But her friends too have not received the 'thank you for participation' slips. Guess every school works differently. Some try to manage the kids' ego and will quietly call the parents to come take the envelopes. In our sch, those who got selected for Round 2 were told to keep it a secret so the rest won't feel sad.

IMO, the yellow envelopes should not be given out right in front of whole class, kids have egos too. And of course those who prep for GEP, after spending so much time n money, will breakdown. The news should be made known to them in a better way.

But GEP is just a bonus, life goes on and I agree with my eldest, everyone is gifted in a different way, that's why life is beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

In my dd class, a couple kids got in incl my dd. and a couple cried coz they were very sure they would be selected (many of us thought so too). The rest were ok. I played down gep n told dd it is really nothing much. Can't study or prep for it, just take the test and tt's it so she was surprised when 1 of the envelopes bear her name as there was no expectation from beginning. Not all parents have a clear cut decision accepting the offer. My dd asked y I sounded so shocked n disbelief when she told me she got in... to me the selection criteria is quite a mystery. She felt I am trying to discourage her from joining, but no..I just wanted to get real and not paint a rosy pic.

Her teacher started with telling the kids it's ok not to be selected etc.. After handling out the results she told the kids to quickly keep their envelope n not talk abt it much. After that teacher spoke to individual kids who were visibly upset, I think it's nice of her to do that.

My son & the other 14 boys in the same class got in but he is not keen to register cos he was told that it will b very stress. Most importantly, he wants to stay with his best friends who did not make it. I have spend 2 days explaining to him. Thinking of getting the school teacher to talk to him.
