      3Boys:

Well, all 2nd hand info from DS. A couple of kids got in, a couple of kids cried, and a few had divulged they had GEP prep. I don't know the correlation or lack thereof between these 3 groups.
In my dd class, a couple kids got in incl my dd. and a couple cried coz they were very sure they would be selected (many of us thought so too). The rest were ok. I played down gep n told dd it is really nothing much. Can't study or prep for it, just take the test and tt's it so she was surprised when 1 of the envelopes bear her name as there was no expectation from beginning. Not all parents have a clear cut decision accepting the offer. My dd asked y I sounded so shocked n disbelief when she told me she got in... to me the selection criteria is quite a mystery. She felt I am trying to discourage her from joining, but no..I just wanted to get real and not paint a rosy pic.

Her teacher started with telling the kids it's ok not to be selected etc.. After handling out the results she told the kids to quickly keep their envelope n not talk abt it much. After that teacher spoke to individual kids who were visibly upset, I think it's nice of her to do that.

My son & the other 14 boys in the same class got in but he is not keen to register cos he was told that it will b very stress. Most importantly, he wants to stay with his best friends who did not make it. I have spend 2 days explaining to him. Thinking of getting the school teacher to talk to him.

Probably yours is an elite school? It must be very competitive. Mine I guess the school did not focus on GEP so the teachers simply gave out the letters in front of all in class.

usually they will find the best match to the current school if I'm not wrong.
Things they do consider incl distance from home, religion, single-sex, SAP etc but not in any particular order. You can state the reasons for the choices if your choices are good match with existing in any way.

this may not be within GEP topic…but will like to find out if my child only passed the selection test but not the screening test, and results in schools (since P1) are so-so eg average 80 marks range…how do we as parent assist in maximising their potential?

Because there were a few children who are very bright and we believe their parents gave them alot of pressure. the rest of us parents din put any weight on it, so majority of the kids were ok. The teacher spoke to the children because she did not want to see broken hearts in her class (she knew a handful of parents put a lot pressure on their kids).. she wanted them to be happy about themselves. Teacher sent email to all parents telling us to show concern for kids, talk to them etc and that gep is not the focus so its perfectly ok if not selected. i dont see competition in dd class. They just try their best out of motivation and not to out do each other.
