Mine is eyeing badminton too!thanks metz.
i like music groups but ds1 is not interested.
he says basketball, table tennis or badminton.
Apparently no selection process for badminton in NYPS. All are welcome to join badminton but the coaches will select & groom those with potential for school team. -
Any GEP parents with kids in RGPS or NYPS care to share about these 2 schools?
My DD is currently in a SAP school doing HCL.
I am not sure what is the great benefit to do GEP HCL. Thatβs why I am geared towards RGPS. But I like NYPS chinese cultures and values.
Any 2 cents worth? -
Morn'g! :salute:
I would like to hear the views of existing GEP parents on CCA (if you are not one But have a strong opinion, yes, I would like to hear from you too!
) I understand that Geppers can opt out of CCA. Is having a CCA straining on the kid especially before SYF/competitions? Conversely, will not having a CCA be unhealthy for the kid?
:thankyou: In advance -

GE HCL is more difficult than mainstream HCL.Any GEP parents with kids in RGPS or NYPS care to share about these 2 schools?

The avantage of doing HCL is to get the extra points to get into SAP SEC sch. But most of the GEPpers dsa to sec sch.
RGPS has 3 ge classes and 2 classes taking HCL and 1 class taking CL. -

There are 4 classes of GEP class in NYPS and majority of the kids are doing HCL. However, there are some who only does normal CL.
Like what Herbie had mentioned, HCL is more difficult. However, they will gain extra points to enter the SAP Secondary school. -

Whether Geppers or Non-Geppers, a child should have a CCA. There are many values a child would learn from CCA that can never be learnt in classroom. E.g. determination, focus, disciple, perseverance, honour, grace and chivalry.
My boy has been highly competitive since young..he wants to win all the time and would throw a big tantrums if he does not get what he wants. We know he will do well academically as he can pick up things very fast and he seems to have a photograhy memory. We want him to grow-up to be a balanced confident adult and we think sport will do wonders. Hence, we signed him up for a sport since he was in P1 as we wanted him to be able to learn ups and downs in life, how to pick oneself up, success is gained thru perseverance and hardship (nothing comes easy!), grace and most importantly losing with honour and many more.
He is in GEP P6 now. He is doing well both academically and sports. We are really proud of him. Of course, he is not perfect (no one is). Like all human, he has fears and can still throw tantrums when things are not smooth going for him. It is thru his sports that he learns that no matter how good you are, you have to keep trying, there are always people who are better than you and it is thru perseverance (the never say die spirit) and hardship that oen can meet his/her goal. There will always be stress for us to manage - not just competitions. CCA and competitions help the child to handle stress. Parents have to be supportive not to add stress. Of course, we want our child to be the best - to win in competitions and etc. The support and constant encouragement we provide will help them to manage stress. We can we honest to our child that we want them to win but we also tell them not winning this time is absolutely fine - our lives still continue but we learn important lessons from each defeat and then coming back stronger to prepare for the next challenge.
Last but not the least, the child's mind will be stretched in class..CCA or sport can help the child to unwind and relax. As the saying goes...\"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!\"
Hope you will find the right answer for your child. Good luck. -

Hi Mum101,
Your son is really an all-rounder! May I know what sports your son plays? I am asking because I know of some children who dropped their sports once they get into GEP as they wanted to focus on doing well in the program. -

A child can do well in GEP program as well as having CCA or a Sport. I know of Geppers (my son classmates) who is also all rounder. High achiever and being in school team for a sports. I think disciple and support is important.
Cut down on T.V. programs and electronic games. Our children will have lots of time running and playing in the field that will make them a happy soul.
P/S: I have also send you a PM

Thank you to all who replied me regarding the benefit of doing HCL. Certainly worth alot to me! < not just 2 cents
>
Thank you AGAIN
As we have lived overseas prior to DD's Pri 1, I have basically lost touch of all these differences.
The news has kind of sunken into us now.
We have gotten over the phase of \"to GEP or Not\" now since yesterday.
Next is to select a suitable GEP school.
We don't live paricularly near any GEP school, hence open to choices.
Hope to find out more during the briefing.
If any parents is willing to PM me to share about GEP in RGPS or NYPS, i will deeply appreciate
Question:
If DD's goal is not a SAP secondary school, perhaps, it's not necessary to do HCL if given a choice.....?
However, she is currently scoring 85-90 for her HCL though. It may be a pity to give up? Just worried with the GEP program, will it be too tough to cope with GEP HCL (i didn't even know of such!)
Appreciate any forms of thoughts
