My eyes nearly popped out when I saw this. Had to do a double take and check if it is really prepping the current P3 batch for PSLE :rotflmao:

Think still have enough time right? or are parents of current P3 really starting the prep work now (worry liao...) :yikes:

ok, since there's a question asked about the syllabus change, here's the announcement that I cut/paste from CNA:

PSLE English Language paper to be tweaked for 2015 examination
By Sharon See | Posted: 03 September 2012 1437 hrs
SINGAPORE: The English Language paper for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) will be tweaked for the cohort taking the national examination in 2015.

The changes will reflect the 2010 revision of the English Language syllabus, which will be implemented for Primary Four students next year.

The Ministry of Education said the new syllabus has a sharper focus on 21st-century competencies, which includes critical thinking and communication skills.

For example, in the oral examination, students may not be asked to describe a picture, which is the current practice. Instead, they may be asked for their personal opinion after being shown a visual stimulus, such as a poster or book cover.

The written papers will also include open-ended questions where students may then be asked to write a narrative from different perspectives.

Wow! Does that mean slanted narratives? Or stories written from the point-of-view of each main character?

Off to search the MoE web site for 2010 syllabus.

Will the parents be given a briefing by MOE or schools? I asked my DD's form teacher and he said that he is not so sure.

No announcement yet from my DD's school. I guess school still needs time to work this out and this is end of year period so teachers are busy with all the admin work. Guess they will do their work plan during the hols. Hence earliest possible announcement will be in 2014 when school re-opens. JMHO

the moe should already train the teachers before making such announcement right?

No, I'm sure the teachers have been trained over the past two years since the new syllabus was announced.

Is http://www.moe.edu.sg/education/syllabuses/languages-and-literature/files/english-primary-secondary-express-normal-academic.pdf that will be implemented from 2013? If yes, it looks very (very) comprehensive, and perhaps, challenging, for some kids. This is based on what I skimmed just now. I am still going through the daunting 144-page PDF.

Hopefully we get more clearer info soon. My DD scores well with the current oral system. I am bit worried now.

šŸ˜‰ Not really the preparation but this thread will keep us under one section to discuss anything related to current P3 which could eventually help in PSLE.

Actually the kids are already progressing towards that with Stellar/ Show and Tell and those pix compos with the last box as a ? (so that the kids can build up the story using their own thoughts).

Of course, it will slowly become more geared towards what they want to achieve based on syllabus in P4 /P5.

I note that for some schools they use a literature /storybook text to teach English in upper primary so that will help towards the critical thinking/examination part
