      Table Spoon:
Many thanks to iluvjr2 for sharing the teacher's response to the CL compo issue. I'm only reading this today as I've been busy recently with my eldest daughter's \"O\" Level Chinese paper. She is taking the paper today.

Frankly, I am quite impressed with the CL compo program. I can see the great amount of efforts being put in to create the 作文校本. Each exercise is focus on one expression or action. There are great suggested phrases and vocab yet allowing the kids to put on the imagination hat. When my older kids were in PCPS, they didn't have this and I find it difficult to coach them on CL compo (I don't send them to chinese tuition classes). One pic or 4 pics does not matter. It's better that we take the \"bite-size\" approach and set the foundation right. It's rightly pointed out that one pic is in fact more challenging than 4 pics.
Mummies, let's leave the design of teaching materials and programs to the teaching professionals.

Most schools do not conduct HCL lessons in the afternoons and I was not for an extra afternoon in sch, too. However, do not forget PCPS is a SAP sch and thus need extra time for the program. Lower primary learn di zi gui & has chinese reading periods. P3 onwards they're exposed to chinese history through stories. I recall that for higher primary, they are taught chinese history in more details and also some chinese literature. Although these are not tested and has nothing to do with PSLE, it's good experience for the kids (esp if they progress to a SAP sec sch). In fact, my girls in sec sch can appreciate it now. They are teaching their classmates how to remember the order of dynasty - taught by PCPS! They are never confused by the different 'Qing' dynasties (all translated to English as 'Qing') cos they learnt it in PCPS in chinese. So looking back, the extra afternoons in sch to accommodate the extras, is not too bad an idea afterall...
Yes the part about teaching chinese history sounds very relevant to me~~ am glad that the kids will be taught such important knowledge!!

        hi to all

Advice needed from the parents of those in sport class.
my gal is selected to be one of the VB school players, letter given today to join sport class for next yr p5. To let us be aware that she had to attend all training sessions and a letter must be provided if she misses any! currently, she is also the member of the CO. tmr teacher will inform if they will be taking HCL. CO SYF competition is every 2 yrs, the next round will be the PSLE YEAR! this year, they took part in the CO competition, train very hard, even had to go back at evening for practices. i can’t imagine what it would be like two years down the road with the PSLE coming. With CO and VB training, how to find time to study? No tuition at all, SA2 results all band 2 except for science band 1.
should i get her to quit one of the CCA? Do you think she can cope with this kind of results if she were to continue 2 niche CCAs?

Hi, check with you all, did you all enrol your kids to Breakthrough Maths by Mr Alvin Chong who is an ex-teacher from PCPS? How was it?

Dear Callie, I did asked my son’s FT but she said she need to check with level head whether they can give such stats. She also said that the average scores may not be a good guage. For the selection of prefects, they start at p1 whereby the selected child will be given additional duties like hall, dismissal roles etc. They will slowly groom the child to be a prefect.

              Hi Zapple,

Congrats to your daughter for being selected as the school team...
I am impressed that your DD manages the 2 CCAs for the last 2 years! My P2 girl is also facing a similar situation in time to come. She selected CO in july but was told in September that she was selected to join VB at P3 next year too... many parents and PCPS teachers advised me that at the end of the day, my girl has to give up CO... it is going to be really tough to handle 2 CCAs especially when there are competitions etc coming up. It will be too tiring... Therefore, I have already spoken to my girl that eventually we only have time for one CCA... considering the fact that her school workload will also get heavier...

Oh is it?? So secretive and careful with such statistics?? I wonder why... so what is a good guage of the entire cohort then? I did get such info from my girl's FT this year and she also said the same thing... because I was surprised the mean marks for the 3 subjects were so low!!

Oh ok... my girl did do some hall duties, pledge taking duties... anyway told her to enjoy such responsibilities and have fun lah...

                  Hi,

My nephew currently in P5, also a prefect mentioned that those who are chosen during P1 for flag lowering ceremony and hall duties will eventually be prefects. Dunno how true but so long ur children are very well behaved, they should stand a chance, esp girls! Next, I understand from RGS, they have average so as to let you know your child’s standard. Need any tuition, the parents will decide… So if there’s no ptm, then this will be very helpful.

                    Hi all,

Been a silent reader here… DS is in P2 this year and P3 in 2013… He’s not selected in any sports class… so going to the rest of the classes…
I need to ask if CCA is compulsory?
                    Reason being
There’s this Art Talent program starting in 2013, and last friday, the selected P2s had this art audition thingy… the teacher in charge called me yesterday to inform me that DS is selected for this Art Talent Programme that they will undergo intensive training… the training is on every Wednesday 1230-130…(which I told her will clash with the CCA timing…) however, she encouraged that we think abt it and if we are keen on Art talent, then she can help to talk to the CCA - teacher in charge… (we choose 1st choice - sports club).

So this morning I told her our decision that we are keen then what abt CCA? She responded and gave me the impression that CCA is not compulsory…that’s why I am seeking advise from Parents here…

Art Talent - what they do… i asked too… not sure if any of the parents here heard abt it and can share info…
=> they will learn all the techniques
=>As the p2 batch of 13 students are pilot batch for this program, the initial year will be basics before they go on learning journey
=> these students will get to represent the school for competitions or watever program (something like dancing for SYF … )
=>i think students benefitted fm this Art Talent Programm can go SOTA where students can showcase their portfolio…

                    Thanks!

MummyTang, this Art Talent Programme sounds new to me. My DS in P3 this year. Never heard of it last year. Definitely a programme that my DD will be looking forward to in PCPS (DD will be in P1 in 2013). I applaud for such initiative by the school.
CCA - Not compulsory, but the school will encourage you to take on at least one for a holistic experience.
