Yeah true if u spent only a day or two in a country. We got local prepaid sim in Italy and UK which were much cheaper. Wifi is nearly everywhere in Switzerland and too busy shopping in France so didn't need local data access.

:offtopic: do u use local SIM card in us n from which service provider?
      :offtopic: :salute: sorry mods!
We just got 3 SIMs from AT&T. TMobile is cheaper but they are on 4G and we don't have a 4G phone. If you have a 4G phone, can consider TMobile. We can discuss this further on the Orlando thread if you want. šŸ™‚

You used 3G to navigate? Did you subscribe to a plan from one of the telcos in Singapore before going? Is it very expensive?

International roaming wd hv cost a bomb or I think 30 per day sth like that but we bought the local card. my dh bought a prepaid card from TIM in Italy which was very cheap for data. The card cost euro 50 n lasted about 8 days of heavy data usage and some light voice calling.

        Check it out here

Local sim with data plan in Europe. That's what we do too. Much much cheaper. :). But then we normally go one country or maybe 2, so it's ok. So for those planning to visit many countries in Europe and spend only a day or 2 in each country, then this may not be a gd idea.[/quote]Thanks dnls and glory mums. So you fit the local SIM cards into your iPhones/Androids? Which means your friends in Singapore can't contact you via your regular Singapore number bec you are now using the local SIM rather than your Sing telco SIM?

          Hi jtoh,
We usually fit the local sim on a spare phone.

We normally use my son's iPhone since he has no roaming. :). I you don't have a spare iPhone or smart phone, swap your own SIM card to a spare old phone and use your existing smart phone for the local SIM since you won't be using your SG SIM for data roaming. šŸ™‚

I was really kiasu and brought 24 pieces of heat pads thinking that we need them when the temperature falls below zero. But our body somehow got used to the cold and we didn't need them at all even when we were up in the snow mountains where it was snowing and the temperature was below zero.

I will say that a good pair of shoes preferably leather boots, warm undies, cashmere pullover and scarf and a hat plus of course a water proof jacket are more important than the heat pads. Use them once when my dd had to wear short sleeves at 4 degrees for an event. Stuck one under each sleeve and between thermal wear and tee shirts.
