I totally agree. It is not fair to the top scholars. They had given their undue hardworks for this moment and they cannot be named.
If the Ministry prevents the annoucement of the scholars, the tution centres should not advertise in their centres that they had which scholars in their centres. Hope the Ministry will be firm in controling such advertisement. -

To clarify, there is no gag order to stop the announcement of names of top scholars. It is just that MOE will not be officially announcing the names of the top scholars. But that won't stop the press or parents from sniffing out the top scholars. Feel free to post the names of the top scholars and their T-scores from each school to this thread tomorrow....

Was worried that Chief would impose 'gag order' here in KSP..

Thank you, Chief, for allowing us to honor these children (and their schools) here in KSP.. :salute: -
every one can do their part by lessening the stress of psle by NOT naming any top student in this forum

my take, no issue with publicizing high T-scocers. My only concern, our nation becomes not too competitive, in a globalized world. it is brute competition, Of course, the govt. must at the same time help or provide a little safety net to those that falls thru the crack!
Some parents may have the same view, it is the parents' expectation that need to change and NOT the PSLE! Have come across unreasonable parents having unrealistic or high expectations of their kids to get into top IP schools. My relatives work in the education area, had repeatedly shared with us, some (many)parents expecting their kids with T-score more than30+ off the cut-off T-score to get into the IP. This is not only NOT helping the kid, but in return creating more harm than good. These unrealistic parents just want to brag about having a child in IP school etc. In the end, the child was the one that was most stressed out!
We should always take the middle path, know where is the limit and where to push or pull harder! If the string is pull too tight, it will burst! If the string is too loose, it will not make good music! As responsible parents, it is good to have high expectation, BUT, we need to recognize that every child is different and give unconditional love! I don't expect my little ones to be as good as the eldest DD. I accept who they are and to each his/her own abilities. I will give unconditional support and love for them to nurture them to the best of their own potentials. That is all …as a responsible parent. :rahrah: :grphug: -

It'd be really sad if parents or students really get stressed simply by knowing who the top student is. That would imply we are truly kiasu - \"scared to lose\" to others. -

Oh goodness. How does knowing who the top student is stress parents?
I think most parents are discerning and objective enough not to be affected by such information. -
ChiefKiasu:
My sentiment too, although I don't really need to know the names of the top scorers.mistral77:
