My son didn't do very well...we were caught off guard.

He has 203. Need time to get over it.
Seriously I don't know what happened, but can't ask him.

Janet, PSLE is not a make and break exam. It is just one of the many battles in life and we cannot win all battles. Encourage him, give him lots of support, after all he has work very very hard for his PSLE. From changing his attitude and learning to be more responsibility in his work, these are valuable skills in life.

Encourage him to pick up from where he fall and go again from there. I have seen many that did not do well in PSLE and achieve well later in life. Life is a journey, PSLE is part of the journey, and by no means the end of it.

Bring him out for a good meal, have a good day out.
The disappointment will not dissipated overnight, but with strong support from the family, he will emerge stronger for future challenges.

      Hi Janet

let me share my son's story . he flopped psle once and GCE o levels once but he's a pilot today and very happily married with 3 kids. Thus, pl remember psle is not the end but beginning of a very long journey . find what your son is passionate about and motivate him. one day you will turn back and say , 'I worried for nothing'. Life is full of opportunities and the most important thing is help your son find his passion in life and steer him towards it. don't be sad as that would dampen your boy's spirit . he's only 12 yrs old. spend the holidays happily with him as next year he would be moving to the next leg of his life . mark my words -- your boy would be very successful in life and most importantly a very happy person in life. don't get caught in this web of wasted competition in mere academic accomplishments.
best wishes to you and your boy

          Hi,

          Thanks lizawa!

          1) But how does the system determine my turn if more than 2 children have the same T-score? That's why I heard ones's 1 choice has a higher priority than another's 2nd choice.
From what i understand, no 2 children will have the same T-score as there are many decimals behind the 3 digits made known to us.

for parents with autistic children struggle, they can cry when they read about He Weijun.

I hope ST reporters can invite his parents to share, so as to give HOPE & SUPPORT to all autistic parents.

              Hi,

              2. No, not everyone is offered 3rd language. Top 10% offered all the 3rd Lang, including french, German and jap. Then the next x% will be offered only Malay, Arabic, etc.

              Just curious.

              Top 10%, what is the t-score? Above 260 or 250 or 240?

              250[/quote] :thankyou:

For Janet and those with younger ones waiting their turn for the PSLE, it is paramount that you demonstrate strength in the face of such setbacks because those younger ones might pick up the negative vibes which inadvertently will add a little more stress when their turns come around. And it is also important to assess and act and not pile more stuff on those younger ones just because the performance of the elder ones was unexpected. Always remember every child is different.

I always feel parents like Janet who have the courage to post their setbacks on forums will have the same spirit to pick themselves and their children up and move on. And to move on in the right direction, one has to assess, reflect and rectify. There are more important milestones to overcome and it is imperative that a child grow to appreciate that life is not a bed of roses, and neither is life a bunch thorns; it is a journey where there will be victories as well as setbacks.

Someone once said this to me a long time ago when I asked how is life: " Life is a series of problems, lah". I take this to mean life is full of challenges which one has to take on at various stages. How true this short reply.

                    Just my 2 cents worth.

Did your dd apply to NUSH via DSA? NUSH accepts the majority of their students via DSA. In the past, the prerequisite for students who wish to apply via PSLE scores is a minimum A* in Science and Math plus a minimum T-score. You might want to call the school to find out the details.

Application form for NUSH is here: https://oas.highsch.nus.edu.sg/OAS_Phase2/default.aspx

                      Details here: http://www.highsch.nus.edu.sg/content.php?id=1f0e3dad99908345f7439f8ffabdffc4#

Actually more impt to see % of students getting above certain pts. What so great abt a school who produce one or two top scorers but the rest get below national average pts?
