Maybe there is a grouping of adjusted scores like 260 and above one group, 230 to 250 one group, 210 and below one group and not many scores in-between so that it is easier to make secondary school choices.

This year, the dragon cohort has increased 3000 more candidates, that is about 6% increase. Notably, this year's percentage into Express stream is slightly higher than last year. While top scorers which are above 250 are constantly about 10% of each cohort; while top 3%, EESIS awarded students are constantly >260-263, so the increase of any particular T score group is no surprise.

Furthermore, T-score is also a placement score to allocate students into secondary schools. The increase of T -score from year to year has no correlation with the academic ability of whole cohort from year to year; You will notice that the COP of schools in fact do not fluctuate that much, rather, the different T score of different schools within the same cohort speaks volume of schools'ability in producing academically able students.

I had the same opinion at first, upon looking at Demographics of population of 2011 and 2012, I have come to this point. As you rightfully pointed out, 6% increase in population this year, the increase of any particular T score group is not surprise but NOT to this extent of a few hundred % of the students who score extremely well in certain group. As you know the increase of T -score from year to year has no correlation with the academic ability of whole cohort from year to year, I'm referring to the Demographics of this year versus last year but not so much on the increase of T -score from year to year.

Honestly, I'm not sure if 250 is still true indication of top 10% of this year cohort and so as >260-263 are top 3%. I am still looking for the answer.

Novena. Like MGS, SCGS does not produce PSLE top scorers in Singapore. Rather, the cohort performs
well as a whole and this can be seen from their % of quality passes.

The top 10% of cohort will be offered three categories of third language; while top 3% of cohort are offered EESIS; that is why to confirm those T score, is the key to find out your inquiry.


Nevertheless, I do agree with you that certain Top school’s COP will go up this year, maybe NYGH and HCI? what do you think?

It is becos exam is relatively easy, the average score of the whole cohort is high. That means if you get high score, many students also scored high. When translated into bell curve, the T score is adjusted and it will moderated.

The same thing happened to my kid. He is very good in maths and scored A*. But many of his classmates that are usually not as strong as him in the subject also scored A*. This had the effect of pulling the T score down.

There have been many complaints in the past that the paper was too difficult. If it was difficult, it will differentiate those are very strong in the subject and those that are not.

Unfortunately, the MOE seems to have caved in to the many past complaints that certain questions are \"exceptionally\" difficult.

That's why I started a thread this morning to find out the top 10% of cohort. As for finding out top 3%, Jtoh had already started a thread.

In general, I think COP for all top schools (not just NYGH and HCI) will go up this year.
