Thanks for the fast response.
Is Dunman High the school you want most? If yes, I think you should be able to get in.nhps2012:
Hi, I am new to this forum and need some advice.
My girl got 257 + 2 PSLE result.
here are 6 choices.
1)DUNMAN HIGH
2)NJC
3)CEDAR IP
4)MGS IP
5)CEDAR O LEVEL
6)MGS O LEVEL
Please advise if any other option or good opinion
Thank you
Yes, my girl wish to get into Dunman high.
In fact we are considering Dunman & NJC but NJC cop is 258. not sure how is the chances of getting in.
I think better than excellent. Like many already said, you should also consider the time for your child to commute to those choice schools and the desired programme (i.e. IP or IB). But I think you will eventually end up with DHS since 257+2 comfortably makes last year's COP, which means your concern with entry to NJC becomes secondary.
If NJC is your preference then just switch NJC with DHS. This change should not hurt your chances one bit. -
Ok thanks for the advice, we will place dhs as 1st choice since thats the school our girl wish to go.
We hope she will enjoy her 6 yrs there .
:celebrate: :lovesite:
cheers. -

oh dear...kitty2,
is your friend's dd from neighbourhood school? or she was not feeling well or brainblock on that day? physical and mental condition plays a very important part during such big exams.
who say dsa via academic does not make sense.... :nailbite: -

Thanks for the advice, we will let my girl choose between the two school.
We are only concern that Dhs as 2nd choice might show that we are not sincere

TLL fees are about $900 for a term, it depends on 11 or 12 lessons. It seems higher cos there's GST charged on top of the fees.lotus123:
Learning Lab charges $1000 per subject per mth and they only accept students who come in the first 10% in their sch exams. my colleague's son was rejected as he was not from his school's top class.
err.. the free is not quite true la... S1000 per subject per term (NOT month la)la.
Not true you hv to be in top class of your school. There is an entrance exam if your grades are not high in your report book.
They may cater to the higher ability kids but there are kids who do not do that well despite attending classes there too. It really depends on the kids themselves. How much they can absorb. -

Take a hold and take stock of yourself. 252+2 is not exactly a mediocre score. Before you contemplate further actions, you might want to compare her t-score with her classmates to ascertain if your expectation is justified. Try asking her teachers for their opinion. It is a hard thing to do though now that schools are closed. If your daughter's t-score is still among the top few (say 5%) in her school then there is no reason to have doubts.
My daughter who was a consistent performer since P1 and was always on school top 3 until p4 and top 1 in P5 only scored 252 + 2. She works so hard every year sacrificing even her play time and holidays. Her score was very shocking to all of us as we all surely expected her to score 260 + 2 and to be among school top 3 as many students this year worked extremely hard. It took us 3 days to recover from this shock and I keep consoling myself telling that I want to appeal. My daughter keeps telling she did her exams well. My dd's mother tongue is Tamil. I am a layman when it comes to T score calculation.
1. Will my dd's tamil t-score be affected if the bottom most ranked girl or boy scored quite low?.
2. Is there any use of appealing as someone here said that ' what if something opposite happens' ?.
It is better to take it at face value and move on. Pursue if your daughter feels very strongly that something is really amiss given her t-score relative to her peers, but be prepared for the inevitable and perhaps even more pain. -

with this forum, the principals of some schools who didn't want to announce the top scorers in their school, wonder how they feel. Parents ask they refused to tell. Come on be open minded.
you know why Principals of such schools don't wish to disclose ?
because scared they malu, esp. when highest score is low. Then nobody want to enrol their child in that school. That's why many of them want it hush hush, want to sweep it under the carpet.
To them, if public don't know, if parents don't know ... better still. Many of them are so secretive - esp. when come to Quality percentage passes, subject by subject. They dare not post openly on their school website. They know that parents who are concerned for their kids will come to them as Head of school - hey P, what's wrong with this or that subject ?
come on man! if you're Principal of a school, you should be bold and open. What's there to hide ? If any subject in your school is particulary weak, then as Head of the school, you should go and find out, troubleshoot exactly where gone wrong, what went wrong ? is it the curriculum of that particular subject in your school not strong enought (yet to improve), or those teachers teaching that particular weak subject not motivated to teach pupils well, or any other reason(s) ?
Well, as Principal of a school, he /she should be bothered to go and find out. Not act as quiet as a mouse - dare not publish Quality %tage passes for their school. Some schools even worse - not a single webpage on any academic info is disclosed. -

Seem like this year the girls school fare ok only and scgs is the lowest along bukit timah?
i do not think it is fair to conclude that SCGS score the lowest amongst \"All Girls\" schools, along Bukit Timah area.orchid1109:
Why until now no news from mgs??
MGS highest: 276 -- My friend's DD.
what you said is merely comparing 3 apples out of a Total 3 baskets of (MGS, SCGS, RGPS) thousand girls along Bukit Timah road. Who are these 3 apples ? 3 Top girls from 3 schools.
if you want to pursue the truth,
we need to strip off the 3 classes of GEP girls from RGPS. (Total <= 75 GEP girls). Then strictly, compare apple to apple. ie. compare Mainstream to Mainstream. Compare what ?
compare their :-
- average mean T score
- Quality percentage pass(es) for 4 subjects
then the Truth speaks for itself - who is really the Top Girls' school ?
as for 3 classes of RGPS GEP girls (<= 75 girls), RGPS should compare with the rest of cohort from remaining 8 GEP centre. ie. compare GEP with GEP; then comparison make sense. After all, isn't the GEP structured curriculum the same, throughout these 9 GEP centre ? -

No worries. Schools have no feelings; only humans do. In fact, it is the MOE system and not schools that will allocate places based on merit, and you can bet that that system also does not have feelings.
We are only concern that Dhs as 2nd choice might show that we are not sincere
