I keep reading abt envy mindset.

I’m curious, parents who are not agreeable to DSA, GEP, are you jealous?

If i knew about it i might not hv encouraged my dd to apply.
my dd was granted dsa by nygh under academic. She is mainstreamer.

I suppose a few are. But for most of us, we are giving our opinions that these schemes cause a lots of stresses to kiasu parents, teachers, parents n especial students who may not be asking for them. Also for me, I feel that these schemes cause unfair disadvantages towards the weaker students as what I have already shared here in this thread.

            希望当局能够考虑废除天才班,或透过DSA直接收取天才班,和直通车等这些让家长和孩子们都感到焦虑的条例与政策。 🙏

GEP cause stress to 家长和孩子们? Why? How?

A case of looking too much into other's plates?

Being \"Gifted\" surely has a different meaning to many Singaporean parents?

On a whole, Singaporean do want to be in the NO.1 position or be in association with the No.1, and be proud of being a member of No.1; but, over the years, things have become, if there is any meritocracy programs, and if me/my children are not in it's top/middle-top level, then all these 让家长和孩子们都感到焦虑的条例与政策 should be abolished ??

We have come such a long way....

I wont go as far to say folks are jealous. Most parents are now educated, and they feel that maybe a more level playing field is in order. Times have changed. Our nation building days are behind us. Fairness and equitable distribution of limited educational resources should be shared. Most families have only 1 to 2 precious kids, they want their kids to have a chance to compete freely and on even ground.

Some of those schemes were created at a different point in time, and to fulfill our nation's interests then. Bear in mind most policies were devised from top down and by an elite group of scholars. We wanted leaders. We picked and identified scholars and fast tracked them in the AA service.

Those days are passé. The silent majority has found their voice.

                若当局把高材测试延至小六, 会让更多家长安心吗?

                家长和孩子感到焦虑, 是因为他们把得失看得太重了吧!如能随遇而安。。。

                According to Wikipedia:-
Intellectual giftedness is an intellectual ability significantly higher than average. It is different from a skill, in that skills are learned or acquired behaviors......

天才 or Gifted, is born with high Intelligent Quotes. By right, it's not something that should be cultivated or nurtured, no?
Regardless of at P3 or P6, the gifted ones would remain gifted, delaying the selecting process is only served to fulfill certain parents that are hopeful of making their children \"the gifted\" to have more time?

Without LKY, probably we won't even have this GEP/DSA/IP issues to consider. Most of us will probably not be as educated as we are now. Can even look over our shoulders & rejoice over our less stressful, less competitive life.

Well, maybe in the near future we can look forward to such blissful lives. :boogie:[/quote]
Haha, yes, indeed, CayennePepper, :imanangel: it'd be so blissful that me/my children would be the smartest of all in the neighborhood, but then again, those below still would complain and lobbying for the bar to be lowered, yet again (?)

Then, one day we will be blissfully look around SG that ALL OF
US ARE IN THE SAME INTELLIGENCE LEVEL, no one is smarter than the other, so peace with all (?)

It's like Marxism Education System ? and the eventual attainment of a classless society (?)

Hmmmm. Dun sound that bad after all. 😉

So where is the cut-off point for majority/mainstreamers?
Top 3 classes? Mixed ability classes? Foundation classes? Wanna level playing field right? Then at which level? Most fair will be at the lowest/most disadvantaged level right?
