How many years is the tourist passport valid for?
How much does the maid pay for the passport? -
Today, I call nation that the law has changed and going thru agency is a must now.
anyone can shed light on this? -
or anyone can advise if we MUST go thru agency, which agency charges the least for paperwork?

Going thru agency is a must to work as maid thru agency. Direct come find their own employer, no need agent. Nation dun want you to be too smart, else they earn from where? My maid passport is for 5 years validity. Must apply by yourself without any help from any agency. Cost about 500 rupiah. Go through agency, will cost your maid a few thousand rupiah…
No problem when going back coz its thick passport, meaning tourist passport. They just assume she is here for holiday, stay with relative or other job that requires her to stay in SG. Nothing in passport to indicate domestic helper or what her occupation is. When go back, just say work, dun mention maid. Just make sure the maid does not mention that she is coming in as maid. Get ex SG. No further paper work that requires anything from indo side coz already have record here. Just need indo tourist passport. Come in confidently with the ai rticket and temp permit from MOM(show only in SG immigration.) While in indo, keep this paper hidden and away from passport. Dun put together with passport. No problem when go back after 2 years -

sure its safe, will she be suspected and denied departure? My helper really looks like a helper, i.e. dunno make up nor look like a into tai tai -

How to get a temp permit from MOM? -
Denied entry or not would be your luck and how she behaves, eg nervous or not etc. by right, they have no right to deny her exit as she has valid passport to leave indo. She does not need to show prove of why she is leaving indo just like when u go to Malaysia with your sg passport, how long she can stay in sg is up to sg govt, not indo govt.
But getting that passport for tourist will be tough. According to my helper, a lot a questions and stringent check. Lots of procedure and takes time. She say must answer smart and make sure they have no reason to suspect u intend to become a maid.
My helper came in without make up but she has lipstick on, her hair rebonded and coloured/highlighted, carried handphone, Dressed very well,,,.dun look like maid at all..
The procedure to get own maid is so easy, I can't believe I've been paying agent so much for so many years. Mostly clicking on MOM website only. Upon arrival, pick her from airport, send to medical, bring her to MOM once only on a sat morning, less than 1 hour all done. -

Choose a maid who work here before so they can skip a lot of the formalities, which makes it easier for them and for us as employer. Get them to get a passport to come in as tourist, not as domestic helper. Indonesia issues two type of passport. One for domestic maid(thinner less pages), the other for general population going away for holiday(thicker more pages). Tell them not to go through any agency in indo but direct apply for passport as someone coming for holiday. At indo side only need to indicate destination, and say they are visiting for holiday only, do not reveal any other document. Else indo official will make it difficult for them to leave indo. All MOM document faxed to them should be revealed only upon arrival at SG. My only cost was air ticket, less than $200(budget airline) and MOM fees for work permit card and medical for maid, also less than $100/200 ( cant remember) in total. Upon arrival, only bring to medical, them to MOM once on a sat morning, and all done. No courses to attend or course fee to be paid coz ex SG maid. No loan for maid to pay. No agency to deal with. U set your own terms and condition of employment and not agency term and condition

I direct hired around the same time as you, march 2012. Mine was an ex SG maid. I have never direct hired a fresh maid before, so can't help u there. I'm sure MOM website will have the information u need to do a direct hire. Or call up their domestic helper department. They were very patient in answering all my queries when I call them up. Even guided me step by step thru the website in my application to hire my maid.
