About 200 SMRT bus drivers refused to go to work early Monday morning and instead assembled at their dormitory in Woodlands.

The drivers, who are Chinese nationals, were unhappy about the recent pay increase that Malaysian drivers had received, reported Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News.

Malaysian drivers got a $275 increment and a month's bonus, while Chinese nationals were paid $75 extra without any bonus.

An SMRT human resource executive was called in to resolve the dispute but when the discussion came to a standstill, police with their riot vans were called.

SMRT runs about 25 per cent of Singapore's bus routes with SBS

      ===========================================

      :yikes: :yikes:

I can't accept this happening in Singapore.

look, the Malaysian drivers take care of their own housing or not full provision of dormitory, as an example

the PRC drivers have dormitory provided, home passage provided, etc

the HR policy is unlikely to be openly blatantly discriminatory

more likely than not that the PRC drivers only see one side of the picture

just citing possible scenario of what was happening

Don't start me on the FT thingy...

Now the FTs are showing SGs how to do \"it\"
SGs are too obedient and taken for granted at times.

singaporeans dun even know how to fight for their own rights…

i dun mind becoming a bus driver if they pay more high enough… in the bracket for 3k and above… why not?

i have all the licenses applicable, but the long working hours and bringing home of only $1800 even after all the incentives, not worth it at all

Yup. I used to work in a manufacturing company and needed to work out the real, complete costs for employing PRCs, Msians and local production workers for mgmt analysis. It actually costs the company more to employ PRCs.

                      not you not your idea

the passengers are the want who want the FT drivers because they don't want to pay the fare to engage local drivers
