[quote=\"jm\"]Hi, any idea when is the AHS open house?
No news of the open house yet..
I just checked out their website and it says that the will be a talent development talk by the principal on 13 October. I think the talk will cover more about the PC class and the programs they have to stretch their students. Might be good to go

I’m new here and would like to know the following:
1) To what extent does Anglican High focus on religion?
2) How does the school allocation students to the classes? based on PSLE result?
3) In primary school, good students are given more opportunity to take part in various activities. Would it be the same in Secondary school, and in Anglican High?
Appreciate if someone can advise.
Thanks a lot! -
I got worried after attending the open house today.
The 2 new programs for AHS next year seems to be double-sword:
The scholarship is only offered to the top 10% of PSLE students; the parallel curriculum (hope I remember it correctly, don’t have much impression and understanding since the principal also didn’t explain much about it) is also offered to the top 20% to 30%. Thus, it seems to focus and reward the top academic performers. Can someone clarify whether my understanding is correct? -

I asked the above 3 questions during their recent open house:
1) they don't have service every week unlike another Methodist school which has service every Monday.
2) 1 to the 100th kid (based on PSLE results) admitted will be mixed and distributed to the top half classes, and the 101th kids to the last kid to enter AHS will be mixed to the 2nd half classes. For illustration purpose, it was explained as \"100\" kids break into 2 groups and redistribute. Each class has 40 kids.
3) I asked coz DD's Chinese is weak and she memorised her work to get an A in PSLE. She wasn't selected to go Beijing in P5 as the child's HMT needs to be at least a merit. I was assured, asking the exact same question, during the open house, that \"all\" AHS students get to go overseas trip in Sec 2 either to Taiwan or China. I suppose it was pretty clear during the open house speach that the AHS scholars will get the \"extra\" exposure and strech in academic.
I have also asked if DD will disadvantage (i.e. \"suffer\") in AHS as it is a SAP school and also we are English speaking family. The reply was, as long as she doesn't reject chinese totally, the teachers will coach and nurture. Another respond was, if she is put in the chinese speaking environment, she will some how naturally switch between chinese and english when she is in school.
DD chose the school because of proximity to home, the \"chio\" uniform and she was all sold to 2-indoor sports hall plus air-con hall. -
Lilo,
Thanks for your post.
I’m wondering if the allocation of class would be different come next year due to the newly implemented "Parallel curriculum". Since this is introduced to the top 30% (maybe 3 classes), all the good students have to be in the same class. Thus, the every 100 way of mixing may not work.
Anyway, will get to know if my child got admitted.
Thanks a lot! -
waiting for DD result, first choice AHS, if got in, any1 have 2nd hand sec1 textbooks to sell?

Is your child taking HCL? I have some books. -
HI. May I know what’s the criteria to take HCL at Anglican High?
For a child not within the top 10% of psle cohort, not taken HCL at primary school and obtained A grade for normal Chinese, any chance of being able to take HCL?
Thanks!
