As far as I know, most school make known the affiliation COP well ahead of the exams. This means that any student who gets that score or above is assured of a place in the sec school if they put the school as 1st choice. If they put the school as any other choice, they lose the affiliation advantage.

I don't know whether there are schools which limit affiliated students to a certain number.

I'm also not sure how the COPs will be affected by the new IP tracks in such schools. On the one hand, while it is true that 'O' level track places will reduce, but on the other, the stronger students from the affiliated Pr school(s) are likely to opt for the IP track and there may be less competition for the 'O' level places.

Is the affiliation COP announced before the exams cast in stone, or is it just a rough indicative number? That is, is the ultimate, final, affiliation COP=the COP announced before the exams?

I did a computation for one of the new IP schools, assuming that the affiliated students with t-score 250 and above make up 10% of the school cohort. If the COP is cast in stone, then according to my computations based on the no. of classes available for \"O\" level, there are no more/minimal vacancies for non-affiliation students! I really hope my computations are not correct...

Some schools state a minimum COP for their affiliated students. So long as they meet this COP they will be guaranteed a place in the affiliated secondary school. Some schools assign a specific number of places to affiliated students. For these, the COP will vary depending on demand and supply.

Not all affiliated students will choose to go back to their own IP schools. Some will leave for other schools, some will choose the O level path over IP.

Given that your T-score is 252+3, I would say your chances of getting into NYGH is zero (last couple of year's COP was 262). Your chances of getting into NJC are also slim, given that the COP was 258/257 last couple of years and your T-score is only 252 (HCL bonus points cannot be used at NJC).

SNGS and SCGS IP are both new, so no one can concretely predict the chances. But I would say that you stand a fair chance of getting into SNGS IP with 255. Your chances of getting SCGS IP with 252 are fair to low.

I think you should be able to get into SNGS and SCGS O level.

So, realistically, I would tell you to drop NYGH or NJC from your list and add a safe option as your 6th choice. Have you considered MGS IP and O level?

              Bonnie:

How does the MOE computer selection work? it mean that my chance gets slimmer as it goes down the 6 choices. Meaning if I select a school X and put 3rd choice, my chance is reduced cos School X is someone else's first choice?

Does it work that way? Would appreciate some kind soul advice as that would affect the ranking of my choices

              Thanks

This is really a ' trying ' issue. Summary from the fruitful discussions and with reference to the moe gray book. Basically 2 steps in the selection process as follows:-

Step One - The computer will select the T score of all students on a descending order basis - from the highest T score to the lowest T score.

Step Two - After step one, the computer will next move on to select the schools on based on the T score selected regardless of the choices made.

Using Bonnie's example, assuming the T score for both is 230. If the COP for school X is 230 and is your child's 3rd choice as oppose to someone with the same score but is his 1st choice. The chances for both are equal. To quote MOE - It is still merit before choice.

Of more concern is the number of places allotted for the sec 1 cohort and whether the sec school concerned has an affiliated primary school. Naturally, many of the students will proceed to move on to the sec school with a preferred ( lower ) T score thus reducing the number of places for the sec 1 cohort in the school for other non affiliated schools, thus limiting your chances. Cos I stand corrected.

              Good luck !

              Hi Pink Ribbon
Thanks very much, your explanation is very clear.

My DD score is 218 and stay in Sengkang

                My choices are:

                1 CHIJ St Joseph-227
                2 Payalaber methodist-233
                3 Bowen-223
                4 Compassvale-215
                5 Edgefield-212
                6 Sengkang-196

For choices 4 and 5 have no Tamil MT, so have to study MT in Sengkang Sec after school hours.

                Any advice pls?
No point to put Paya Lebar Methodist cos the COP is too high. You might want to include North Vista & Holy Innocents instead of Sengkang Sec.

Please help me with my choices of 232 score.

                  1 TKSS (COP 233)
                  2 ZHONGHUA (COP 232)
3 HAI SING CATHOLIC (COP 225)
                  4 DUMAN SEC (COP 229)
                  5
                  6 PASIR RIS CREST

Which school is better Duman or Hai Sing Cat? Anyone can advise me.

To me Dunman will be a better choice than Hai Sing. in their sch website it sated they are ranked 1st in Pasir Ris and Tampines area. Why you are not putting Temasek (COP 230) into consideration?

                    Hi

                    Anyone staying in the north?
I would like to know if AMK Sec or CHIJ st Joseph is better in terms of academic, culture and school programs?
Prefer CHIJ St Joseph's but am very concerned taht they are a Band 8 school.
Only left with 1 choice and I want to choose a school with 230 COP and below, and cannot decide which one of these to choose for my DD.

                    Thanks.
Have you include Nan Chiau, Xinmin or Zhonghua? All of them are band 2 schools.
