Same here. My DD likes to read rainbow magic series because she likes fairies. I cannot find any books which is of interest to my DS so I also start him off with comics such as Young Scientist. :imcool:

For my kids, the only book that I encourage so much to start with is comic book.

This is a good start. When the kick of reading begins, I will make them borrow more books relate with comics and slowly transit to non-fiction books. You can try this!

I have never heard of this method. The only comments I have always heard about comic reading is that the parents are always trying to wean the kids off comics or that they regret letting their kids to start reading comics.

My mother (an English teacher) was quite permissive about comics. We didn't start with comics, but she never disallowed them either. Her belief was that reading something was better than nothing. I don't recall she ever had any problems geting us to read other books or weaning us off comics. I'm a very keen reader, and my brother, although not as keen a reader as I am, is also highly educated.

Well, that is provided all reading materials are good materials. Nothing bad. Then yes, I would agree reading something is better than nothing.

The recent gripe my colleagues have on this topic was about reading Geronimo Stilton books. They said \"the mouse language\" is not good. My kid just started on GS series and I have just bought a whole series for him.... Gosh.... :moneyflies:

hi all!

my son used to read a lot.now he reduced.now he is 10.he doesn’t like to read thick books.he said it makes lose interests in books.he distracted by gadgets and find excuses.he said couldn’t find his favourite books that he didn’t read. he likes adventure + funny. i always let him to choose.i allowed him to choose comic books too.
any idea to make him read more? thanks.

ps: previously if he had story books to read simply forgot tv/computer.that time we didn’t have iphone.now we have iphone.

I let my kids read whatever they want as long I read through them first.

Both my kids has different kind of taste on books they read.My DD like to read about Demi gods and mystery stuffs and my DS like to read things about planets and Science.So I will try to look for books which they like.

To encourage them to read, I think the best way is to start with the topic they like first.

And Gadget is only play during Dec school Holiday.

My DS does not read much until he discovered the Horrible Science, Horrible History & Horrible Geography series. Now he just just keep on reading…

\"Shall\" and \"will\" are modal verbs. Generally speaking, modals are used to indicate politeness and certainty. For example; 'I will go to school' versus
'I shall go to school' - one is more certain than the other.

There are two usage of the word \"to\" in the English language. The first is the infinitive - to. This is used in common expressions such as, \"I need to run for the bus.\" \"Do you want to eat chicken pie tonight?\" \"I'm glad to hear you don't smoke.\" For this type of usage, its impossible to use the past form of the verb directly after the \"to\". You can only use the infinitive (basic) form of the verb. {Its usually confused with the present tense, but grammatically its called the infinitive form}

The second usage is prepositional. When using it as a preposition, the word next to it is usually a noun, pronoun or a gerund. For example, \"I went to the zoo.\" \"I gave the ball to him.\" \"I object vehemently to smoking.\"

So, long answer short. You can never use a verb in past tense immediately after the word \"to\". (Or at least I can't see how...)
