Which level are there in now ? I think the teachers are generally quite good there except that next year they will be moving out due to renovation at Katong Mall.

I just pray and hope that they don't move too far out, otherwise there will be logistics nightmare for me as I stay within walking distance to Katong Mall.

As the investment for piano is very high and i am afraid that she cannot sustain it so i managed to switch her to violin when she starts P1. So now am thinking of switching her to piano. about the keyboard at carrfour... I think you can go for the 2nd hand good piano at christofori warehouse.... there are yamaha/ kawai 109cm for 1200+ good investment for a starter. elec.keyboard keys are different a bit cosy to play. but for the piano a bit preasure is there. to give the hands a perfect training...my personal op is for piano. piano you can tune and use.

For the sight reading you can buy the book called 'a dozen a day' and give her to practice it everyday befor the piano class one.....

Mama_mia, with regards to sight reading you can try Paul Harris, he has a series of sight reading material for pianists. Has worked well for my students. And yes, theory is included with practical. Majority will cover up to grade 5, take the theory exam then stop theory. Theory gr 6 onwards is not a pre-requisite. Some do choose to continue with the theory but that would be done separately from the practical.

I need some advise from experience parents/students on the merit or downside of having a student skipping grades while learning piano. Eg, from grade 1 then skip and take grade 5 and then skip to take grade 8 within a very short period of time. The norm I believe is to take 1 grade per year.

I’m at the cross road. Not sure which way to proceed.

Skipping grades - that’s ok in early grades, ie 1-5, though not for everyone. Really depends on individual, teachers SHOULD be in the position to access. My daughter (whom I’m teaching personally) skipped 1 and 2, she’ll be going straight for 3, this however wasn’t really intentional, did plan for her to just skip 1, but the exam timing wasn’t ideal for her to take 2 so have to move forward. Physically (and hence technically) she has to put in more effort cos she’s only 6 going on to 7 yrs old, some co-ordination takes more practice. For higher grades 6-8 I generally don’t recommend skipping cos the gaps btw these grades are wider and expectations from examiners are a lot higher for each of them. But of course there are exceptions, those who can take the pressure and are technically and emotionally ready for a skip can of course do that. My friend’s daughter (she’s 12) will be attempting gr 8 (and she has NOT done ANY grades at all), she’s also taught by her mum.

Thanks, had not login for quite awhile. i was given a keyboard by my in-law. So i shall focus to buy the 2nd hand piano and yes, i saw many adv. from christofori warehouse, that will be a good pl. to start for me.

Hi. I don't know any piano Teacher to sembawang, but I do know one piano Teacher stays in sembawang B467A. My DD attended 1st lesson yday and I find her teaching environment is quite good. You don't have to walk around her whole house to get into the \"classroom\". She is very bubbly but speaks very fast. Her timing is all back to back. I supposed she is quite good otherwise my friend would have stop her DS to learn from her a long time. If you want to know her contact, I am happy to share.

By the way, I am a newbie to KSP. I am wondering, am I paying too much for a 1 on 1 piano session? My girl she is 5 years old this year, the fees is S$130/month. My friend said the piano teacher is a diploma level teacher. I don’t want to go to music school for cheaper rate because I do believe 1 on 1 is good esp on laying a good foundation.
