School fees of independent JCs
-
Hi all, I’m a student taking the O level track and I want to ask if there is any scholarships available to cut down the school fees if I enter an independent jc like HCI or RI? I heard there’s this Edusave (Independent Schools) Yearly Awards which has a similar function but I think that applies only after entering the Independent JC, right? If this is the case, then the expensive monthly school fees still has to be paid for a year before the grant is available, which for my case, is rather financially unsound. Furthermore, I don’t think my family income is eligible for FAS, so you can say I come from a middle income family. Yet, due to various commitments my family has to make, there’s really not much left to pay the exhorbitant school fees (which in my case, would be 300 SGD as I’m a Singaporean.) Is there any solution to this?

MOE has a list of scholarships for outstanding Pre-U students. See here: http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/scholarships/moe-preu/
As you mentioned, there is also the Edusave Yearly Awards, Financial Assistance Scheme and Bursary. Schools also have their own in-house initiatives and scholarships to help needy students who do not qualify for the above but still need assistance in fees, allowance, books etc. You can call the schools for details or check out their websites for details. -
I’m not 100% sure but if you get 6 PTS I think you qualify for some scholarship eeis I think that pays for your school fees. Not sure though. My teacher only mentioned once before.

I think it is the ESIP, $2400 per year for year 5 and year 6 at the independent JC(RI, HCI, SJI, ACS(I)). Singaporean Student needs to get raw L1R5 of 8 points and below. Otherwise look at the FAS again to see if qualify. The criteria for independent schools are slightly different from other schools.

What if one gets 6 points raw but only -2, and gets into HCI/RJ via appeal. Will they still qualify? -

If this scholarship is based on the O level results, does it mean that it can be received as early as the start of the year or the first month of school?Skyed:

Hi there, sorry for digging this up, but I went to check, ESIP is for top 5% of the cohort in GCE O Levels. Are you sure that the top 5% is only 8 points raw? :yikes:Skyed:
