Cruise - royal caribbean

I have taken both Star Cruise and RC. RC wins hands down for sure IMO. I'll go RC again in a heart beat, but not likely to consider Star Cruise again. I find RC better organized and I like the dining in the main dining room.
Foodwise, Star is mainly buffet. Hate to have to book for dining if i want better food. The main dining room food and service in Star is nothing compared to RC. RC service is much much better and higher end and more towards fine dining. Star is like any family restaurant service, ie no big deal and nothing to shout about.
You can eat anytime you want, as many times as you like on RC. Even room service is included. At any point in time, some restaurant somewhere on the ship will be servicing food.
Disembarkation - Hate the rushing to disembark in Star. RC is no rush and don't have to push and shove. Star make everyone go to a big room to wait to disembark, really can't stand it. We disembark at our own pace in RC.
But i must qualify that my experience with Star is on Asian cruise, but on RC was Alaskan and European. Asian cruise on Star gives me the impression that all the aunties and uncles are there for the casino only, but then, since I did not take the RC Asian cruise, dunno if RC in Asia also like Star.

for RC to Malacca, eventhough there are about 2k passengers on board but everywhere we went is not crowded. it’s like people are disperse in different areas at any 1 time. queue to meals are not long, can always get in within 10-15 mins. and i wonder where are those people on board, then i realise that our dinner/show are split into batches, first batch go for dinner at 6pm, then show at 830pm. those dined at 8pm will watch thre show earlier at 630pm. etc
pools are never full, my kids get to share the pool with just 4 others… wonder why too… this is indoor pool. outdoor pools have more people but still not full or crowded.
casinos are ok maybe more people went at night, but as i have young kids, we went back after the show ended at 930 or so, my girl follows her grandparents to late show until 10 plus to 11pm …
it’s just nice to be on board that we get to slowly stroll on the ship, enjoy the facilities and food … n no need to queue for things or squeeze in crowd.
dining is the best experience i had on board ! the waiter is just nice and crack jokes… and they also help to entertain the kids… making them want to go back to the restaurant again… -
I also came back from RC last Mon.
Kids enjoyed themselves.
Anyone heard of voyager of the sea and know if it would come to SG?
Cos understand that ship has dreamworks characters.
My kids may like it if we go cruise again.
My eldest says he wanna go again to cruise. -
CrispyApple:
The voyager will be cruising around the various ports in Asia in 2013. All you need to do is go to RC website and search the vessel and get a list of their cruising itinerary for 2013. Voyager is a slightly newer class of vessel compared to Legend. but Legend is 16yo. i was on the inaugural cruise when it was touted as the largest and newest in the world :rotflmao: Normally the newest vessels cruise Alaska and Caribbean due to higher demand and competition in these markets. If Asia becomes a big market, they will send the newer vessels here. :).I also came back from RC last Mon.

Hi Hi,
My family will be going on the Penang/ Malacca cruise on 7 Dec. Can someone please advise if what is the name of the pier when we alight at Malacca? We intend to take a cab to Mahkota Parade (mall next to Hotel Equatorial) and is wondering how do we tell the cab driver when we want to return to the pier.
TIA -

I just came back from RC trip on 03DEC12.
It is a Jetty. (mentioned Cruise/Malacca Jetty, the taxi driver will know)
about RM10/trip.
I choose to walk from the Jetty to Makorta Parade which took about 10minutes.(not advisable to walk if have kids or elder)

We went to the Jetty 2hours later after the gate opened to skip the early crowd. You need to take the feeder boat from the cruise to the jetty.
The queue is long for the returned trip. No express lane for baby/toddler, everyone has to queue.
U can ask me if u have any more query. -

Hi Edvan,
Your info is much appreciated. I planned to take a cab instead of on foot as I can't really recall how to walk to the mall from Jonker street which heard the jetty is near Jonker..and ILs & DS will be with us..so better not make them walk so much with us..
Hope you had a great time spent on RC.

Hi Mauricemum
For those with elder (who have difficult in walking).
There is wheelchair service from crusie center to cruise (a distance to walk), but no wheelchair service within the cruise.
You will be suprised that Makorta Parade provide wheelchair for loan (free but need to deposit refundable RM20 with driving license or sea pass). And kiddy car trolley for loan (need to pay per hourly)
If you have any request from the cruise, always take note of the person name and department on their name tag and inform your room number. -
Hi all,
I heard my fren mentioned RC Legend of the sea is going for refurbishing…which ship is coming to take over?? -
RC going to switch ship? Hope it’s a bigger one! Will other company coming here with their ship too? Celebrity cruise I heard its not bad. Their food…
