I am planning to move next month. My son will be p4 next year. Can I call the school nearby my new home to check if there is any vacancy for my son and if there is I transfer him to that school? How is the process normally if parents suddenly shift house moving from west to east?
Thanks.
hi, you have to call the school and check for vacancy now. -
Hi everyone,
I am moving to bedok reservoir area in 2 years time but my younger DS will be registering for P1 next year. If we follow our older DS, he will go to Ngee Ann Primary which will be quite a distance to travel. Anyone have any comments on transfering to Damai Primary School (the other schools like Yuneng and St Hilda’s are pretty difficult to get in - hv to ballot even at 1km)? Any advise would be appreciated as we are at a loss on what to do. -

Are there other choice besides Damai?Hi everyone,

Sorry... I just don't have good impression of this school. What about other schools in bedok area?
Do have some relatives whose kids are in Damai as they stay in reservoir area. One sat for PSLE.. Told me proudly that her son always get 90+ for maths... To me, I was like wow.... since failure in maths (even p5 level) is not uncommon for my kids' school.... 90 is really rare and only a handful.. But she added that during PSLE, the son got a shock when he saw the paper and didn't attempt a number of prob sums.... As she is a distant relative, I didn't get to ask about the PSLE results...
But looking back, this sounded worrying as we need to ensure the paper set by the school prepares the kids well for PSLE. Do find out more as what I encountered could be an extreme case. If you can see their academic track record or hopefully speak to someone with kids in the school, that will probably help. -

My situation is directly opposite of yours. -
Hi Councillor,
Thanks for the info. I too do not have good vibes about that school but apparently that’s probably the only school (in that area) that is single session. The rest in the area are Yu Neng Pri, Red Swastika (ballot at 1km), Bedok West Pri, East Coast Pri. And i do not have any friends whose kids are in Damai Pri. This is so mind boggling! -
Has anyone received their STEP results for transfer? Care to share any success stories? I applied to the school of my choice directly and they replied to have to wait for the STEPs results to be finalised.

Some direct school transfers announced already. My fren’s kid managed to get transferred today.

The decision of transferring a child to new school should be taken in child’s best interest. While transferring a child, one should speak to the Head teacher of the current school and request a transfer form. Once you have discussed the transfer with your child’s current Head teacher, you should contact the school Admissions Team, who can further co-ordinate in the process.

I will check with the sch I asked for transfer with. My girl has to transfer school due to health and medical reasons. Even so it is up to the sch to decide. I have approached many schools and most do not really have a staff in charge of admissions. They tend to be quite straight forward and applying for transfer is simply submitting a form with required results. So far, my dd’s current school do not have a policy where they pass us a trasfer form to use for application. There is a MOE standard and protocol I suppose.

When we fill in the waitlist form and the school is asking what you can contribute to the school. Is the school referring to donation? It means that if we donate $$$ to the school then they will accept my child?
