Hi,

For Yamaha JMC, do we have to get the designated keyboard that the school uses?

Also, any idea when the Yamaha at kovan open?
Heard is undergoing massive Reno. Can’t seem to reach anyone when I call.

my child is in JMC now. I am still deciding whether to switch to private or JXC after completion of JMC…

my child JMC teacher said in preparation for the JMC assessment test after bk 4, she suggested to let child play on piano that allows them to control the strength used on the key notes to produce beautiful music with soft/loud etc… if use electone wont have such effect… piano will also train them to have sensitive ears to the sound at this age… im now still using yamaha keyboards… any suggestion which model of yamaha piano to start with that can last as long as they can go ?

can i ask, after JXC(developmental stage), kids will sit for grade 9 exam ?


there is grade 1-13 altogether… the fees for gradings eems lowest for grade 13… is that mean grade 13 is the easiers ?

i usually hear that after piano grade 8 the next level us diploma… now im so confused…
why yamaha has so many grading…

Yamaha grades are in descending order ie the higher you go the lesser the number. Yamaha Grade 5 is min teacher's grade.


Piano ABRSM grades are in ascending order ie the higher you go the higher the number. ABRSM Grade 8 is min teacher's grade.

Typically people refer to ABRSM grades. So Yamaha students always have added problem of explaining their grades. When my kid finished Yamaha grade 8, everyone goes wow and he/we find it a chore to explain too.

Wonder why they cant just align it too :?

Thanks for the explanation ! now i understand ! hah ! no wonder many fren’s child go for normal grading as in ABRSM instead of yamaha grading… but many children will start from yamaha instead of the ABRSM grading when they first playing piano… so contradicting… is that mean yamaha grading is not that recognised ??

Micollh, Yamaha grading is only recognized within Yamaha, but abrsm is internationally recognized.

most yamaha students i know take both yamaha exams and ABRSM exams together
