Solutions are there:
1/ make public transport public again. No loss is the target, not the profit
2/ subsidy public transport using the COE money. Reasonable.

      Interesting propositions. Worthy of thought.

      Agree. Worthy indeed.

Where does the COE $ go to currently? :moneyflies:

How much CEO's pay per month? $100,000? or more than that?

Minister Lui said more ppl would be introduced into SMRT management. Guess this won't be cheap. So Mr Lui actually forgot to mention the pay of these highly competent elite when talking about ticket fare rise whereby he mentioned only drivers' pay rise alone :xedfingers:

Have increase headcount means better services and solutions for improvement?

Why Taipei can maintain fares for 10years?

            Why SMRT cannot?
the greed of the 'elites' here has no limit

              And your solution would be?

If cost of operations rise, then who bears the rise in costs? Its either fares or taxes, and I am ok with both, but don't turn a blind eye and imagine some magic can occur.

Why do you need my solution? Isn't this the best they can do? Shouldn't I accept that it is the best they can do? Is it WRONG to accept that this is the best they can do?

              Whatever...
😆 ya, whatever. Thing is, if SMRT is privatised, why has this become a problem for the minister? And why need to consider taxes? Shouldn't the CEO be the one in charge? Shouldn't it come from the shareholders- or to find other competitive and creative means to make money yet continuing to make customers happy? The line is a grey one here, and thus give room to grey areas in accountability. Just my thoughts.

                WHY do the worker protest?

It is bcoz of perceived UNFAIR salaries between different nationalities, and also unsatisfactory living conditions.

The company should make the base salaries the same, and deduct whatever costs like accommodation etc.. and make it transparency..

I don't see why would this directly translate into higher costs?

And who is talking about pay rise etc..? incompetent leader are again digging up the wrong place and totally missed the key point..

To me, they are just making excuse to up the fares yet again.. to increase profits.. using the strike as cover..

Perhaps fares were meant to increase in the first place, whether there is strike or not - They were going to give increments to other workers any way, isn't it? So I don't totally disagree that perhaps there is opportunistic move here to announce fare rise.

Ya - THIS IS THE BEST THEY CAN DO. Like it or not, it is a monopoly - if you don't like it, go get a car (and bear with the COE 😆 )

Ask Volvo and Mercedes to give us buses for free, ok?

You find some friends and volunteer to go drive buses for free, ok?

It's ok as long as its someone else's money.
