Hi,
I am newbie here and would like seek good advice & help from current RVHS students/parents.
Kindly would you recommend RVHS for my son who did not take HMT-Chinese for PSLE 2012? He got T-score 257 and an A for MT-Chinese but this is his weakest subject and we have understood that HCL is a compulsory core subject in year 1.
Any suggestion if he really cannot cope with HCL? What is minimum requirement to pass the HCL in year 1?
BTW appreciate you could also help on the information of RVHS IP subjects combinations for year one and how much different from the O levels–Express stream?
:salute:
Student must exhibit a positive towards learning to take up the challenges in RV.
Additionally, students must achieve a GPA of 2.0. Refer to the school website for detailed information of the promotion criteria from Year 1 to 6.

IP track is a special educational path for students whom had endeavored to pursue further education with the universities. This indeed is a good route to take as this would enlighten the student in two areas;
1) they do not have to take the \"O\" level exams less the mother tongue for \"O\" level
2) they do not have to worry about which JC to further their \"A\" levels (not to worry about L1R5 and posting/selection)
The IP track is both challenging and interesting, subject combinations are more or less similar from Year 1 to Year 3, with the progression and changes in Year 4 to prepare the students for JC1 and JC2 in Year 5 and 6 respectively.
Cheers. Have A Great Evening@Poet2010
Many thanks to Poet201 for your quick information.
From RVHS website the Year 1 to 3 subject combinations are:
Core Subjects: 2 x Lang Arts + 1 or 2 x Maths + 2 x Science + 2 x Humanities + CID
Other Subjects: Y1 – 2: D&T, HE, IT
Y1 – 3: Aesthetics
Elective Subjects: 3rd Science, 3rd Humanities, 3rd Lang Arts
It is correct to say typically a year 1 student will have total 12 subjects + CID +optional elective subjects?
What are the CID components requirement and promotion criteria?
Thank you again.
Cheers.
twl5306,
do not get overly worried about RV's curriculum, basic core subjects for exams are;
1) English Language Art (a combination of Literature & English)
2) Higher Chinese Language
3) Mathematics
4) Science
5) History
6) Geography
RV's programmes thrives on a few key areas; character, leadership, teamwork, cognitive interest, exploration, talent, Ask n Learn ... ++
Projects, assignments (i.e. tutorials) and class test are gradable. And if the combined grades at the end of the fiscal year gets a GPA of 3.8, then the student will get full exemption for the year-end exams. And this depends heavily on the consistent school work performance of the child.
The IP track in RV is a unique pacing programme, the performance of your kid would be monitored closely by the school. If need to, parents meet teacher session shall be arranged for further assessment of the student's progress.
If you deemed RV suits your child's learning path, then it's a good choice.
RV thrives on leadership and character development besides the strength in academics.
Cheers. -

Thanks again @Poet2010,
Please allow me to ask is your child currently studying in RVHS year 1? -
I would like to ask:
What is the minimum GPA required for the edusave scholarship? Approximately.
And what is the minimum conduct grade?
Thanks. -
Yewniffler171:
I read that edusave scholarship requires recommendation by the school. It is usually top 10% in the school.I would like to ask:
What is the minimum GPA required for the edusave scholarship? Approximately.

Thanks.
How many students in your batch got GPA 3.8 and were fully exempted from year end exams? -
I think about 18-21
-
Yewniffler171:
I think about 18-21
Are you sure is so few?
You can then calculate yourselves what is GPA for top 10%. That will likely be the cutoff for edusave scholarship.
I thought is better that you consult the school admin office about it. -
But that’s not 10%.
Ya. Our level is pretty bad. -
Yewniffler171:
That is not 10%. so maybe 3.7 is 10% for your level. But that's not 10%.
Ya. Our level is pretty bad.
Other level has 50 or 60 students with 3.8 or more GPA. That is more than 10%. For their level, they will need 3.85 or 3.9 to be in the top 10%. I hope you get what I mean, it changes relative to the performance of the level.
Do you know why your level don't perform as well as other level? Is your level set to a higher standard? -
I am not sure. The hmt in term three s easy.

Heard from my DS, on previous years, there are RV students who DSA to other IP schools on Y3; anyone knows if there are any who successfully DSA to other schools for their Y3 next year?
