I think the coach will gauge whether can skip tests or not. It depends largely on the proficiency of the student.

DS recently completed his swim safer gold certification. I would like him to continue going for certification but not competitive swimming. Question is, what's next? He's 8 this yr. Thx.

        Scuba diving?

His swimming coach - who is very effective and got ds to pass bronze, silver & gold tests all within one yr - recommended long distance swimming certification. DS is keen to do that as he likes to have a target.

I heard of life-saving course too. What is the minimum age for that course? I suspect 8 yrs old being too young. Any url? Thanks for your info.

Edit: just went to the swim-speed website and found out that minimum age for life-saving course is 14. In swimsafer gold, one has to swim 400m using 4 diff strokes, which appears to be more stringent than the earlier stages of life-saving. In that case, do you know whether it's possible to skip some levels? Just informational as ds is obviously too young for that.
          Hi FQW,
Is it possible to conduct 3 levels of test, i.e bronze, silver and gold within a year? I was told each level takes about half a year. May I know at what age did your Child start taking swimming lesson? Thanks.

That's an interesting sport. Hopefully one day he'll do that too.

Yup, it's possible. My son took bronze in Jun, silver in Sep and gold in Dec 12. 3 certifications within 1/2 yr. On top of that, coach managed to train him in butterfly as well. He has been with current coach for 1 yr.

That's why I say he has a very effective coach who is able to motivate.

Before that he was learning under 2 different coaches (not concurrently) for 1.5 yrs and managed to clear levels 1-3. He was 5 1/2 yrs old when he started proper lesson.

Thanks for the information. Your boy must be quite good as well to have achieve so much in a short time 🙂 My boys are under a coach for coming to 2 years now and only going for bronze test, although he has taught them butterfly etc. In fact, coach say their standard can pass gold with little problem...but I have been thinking it is indeed a bit slow in terms of test. Thanks again, I will check with him again.

I'm a PADI certified diver. Though I haven't done a dive for donkey years,
still can remember it being one of the best experience I ever had. 🕺

                    Hi

Any recommendation for a good swimming coach in Yishun swimming complex.
Need a patient coach for my 6 yr old son.

                    Thanks

My DD’s swim coach is based in Yishun.

PM me if you need his contact.

Another way is for you to go down to the swimming pool
at the timings your DS is available for lesson, and observe
the swim coaches and approach the one whom you like
in terms of teaching style, patience, etc.
