English Assessment Books
-
I think EBP should be the quickest to publish updated assessment books.
I saw two new assessment books in Popular - one is from SAP (http://sapgrp.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=476_420_434_444&products_id=1010) and is theme-based (which, I think, the new syllabus is also). The other assessment book, which I think also advertised was for the new syllabus, is from EPB. I will post back if I recall its name. -
Hi,
I saw a post about a KSP parent looking to buy PSLE MODEL COMPOSITIONS by Multinine.
Is this good book to have? From where to get this book? Popular?
I searched online but could not locate it. -

thanks phttp, I saw this blog. But it is dated somewhere in 2010. I dont think the lady will still have it on sale.
just wondering any body know the bookshop selling this? -
Hi mother777,
Not sure if you are referring to me.
The guide was recommended by PSLE2011mum in the 2012 PSLE thread.
I have not scan many existing compo guides in the bookstores, so what I like abt the guide may be found in other guides as well. These are the reasons why I like the PSLE model composition published by multinine.
For situational qns:
There is a list infor that the child must include in either a report, email, postcard, etc.
For continuous writing :
There is a must write list. I like this becos help to ensure the writing is not out of point.
Ideas generating list. This is like a brainstorming which I liked a lot. The reason why I dislike model composition is becos I don't want my kids to have a fixed idea abt writing such compo. Although, there is a written piece but at least it does not exclude the possibility of other stories, so to speak.
There's a word count at the end of the compo.
There's a quick tip segment which is kind of critic of the piece which I like to help generate angles and ideas of how to write.
Although the qns are from PSLE past yr qns, the pieces were written by publisher. I think PSLE2011 mum samples are better hahahaha.
My kids do not go for writing classes. So I'm using this guide to help me understand what's required and how to write a decent piece of work. Heehee
As I mentioned, other guides may have the above parts that I like too. I don't know becos I have not research abt the others.
I have chked with the publisher, they are not publishing any more new editions or re-print of the 4th Ed. They do not have any old stk too.
I have not chk popular, other bk stores or 2nd hand bk stores. A mummy was kind to sell her extra copy to me after I posted the WTB thread. -
Oh ya, forgot to add. The guide also have vocab quiz and recommended reading list for the kids.

Hi SAHM,
Thank you for your kind sharing about the compo book. Sounds quite good and interesting.
I think it is time for me to visit 2nd hand shops in bras basah.
But worry I will end up buying many more books than I need (because I am crazy about books and cannot resist a good deal). ha ha ha…my hubby is worried that my house has started to resemble a library…books at every nook and corner…
Glad that you found a mummy who was kind to sell you one. I am not sure we have someone else selling this book right now…
If yes, I would love to buy a copy too… -

mother777,
HAHAHA, I know what you mean abt the books. I have books everywhere in the house too heehee.
I was trying my luck too in the forum. -
Am I right in thinking the SG Comprehensions in Primary Syllabus will move towards inference-based questions.
If yes, are there any decent books to be recommended for P2 and P4 and P5, please.
I bought the following book from the USA earlier this year. It is quite good, but challenging for my son; I will persevere with it. It is called: 501 Reading Comprehension Questions (501 Series).
