Like LazyGarfield, I just signed up for an account here and I'm going to be in RGS Year 1 next year

Hi all
On Reporting Day, the admin staff informed me to wear the polo shirt and culottes skirt on the first day of school...Herbie:
So my gal will rather wear the sch uniform.LazyGarfield:
Thats why. They didn't say anything about that at all ._.
I'm rather sure that it is PE + culottes. However, if your daughter really wants to wear the school uniform, she won't be booked either - there were quite a few who wore the wrong thing on the first day, in my year. But yes, I agree that the school should've told everyone about it. -
Thank you a child!
Of course we trust you. My gal is heeding your advice and will be wearing PE shirt with culottes. -

Thanks a lot, Choco, you've been really helpful! So, what is orientation going to be about?? :scratchhead:
I know Choco posted, but this is just to elaborate -
The fun parts are Raffles Initiation when you get all to know all the awesome school cheers and songs, and there are also Icebreakers, and the first 3 PSL session where PSLs will mentor you about things related to RGS. And it's really fun so look forward!
All classes will also write, direct and produce a class performance that'll be put on when the parents come after camp Week 1 Friday
There'll also be contact sessions with form teachers, introduction to House / Congress, and of course Badge Initiation. There's also CCA briefing and orientation. Of course there's overnight camp which is always cool, plus the Night surprise put up by Student Leaders
On the more boring note there are a bunch of talks (like History of RGS) and phototaking and other stuff
But it'll be cool!!
And on a random note: when you go to school first day (Jan 2), we don't gather in the parade square but in the amphitheater as we do for all school events (dry weather). And we do a bunch of Raffles cheers. And I remember when I was in Year 1, we were the only batch not cheering, because we felt really awkward to be part of this and we'd never ... really cheered before? And it was loud, and we were all self-conscious. But now the Rafflesian cheers is a fav of many many people
Thanks a child, I'm so glad to have such enthusiastic seniors
thanks for both Choco and your help :imanangel: wonder if I'll find out both of your identities
do you have any idea on the orientation tee shirt :lightrod:
Actually, I've already been unmasked by a bunch of people on this thread, juniors and seniors alike. I think Choco knows who I am, though I'm not sure who she is yet (I know the class, I think I've seen her, but exactly who I'm not sure haha)
And sorry, I'm not sure about the orientation tee. I'm not sure if they've changed the vendor, or maybe it's just my memory failing me, but my impression is that I got an S-sized Orientation shirt. It fit fine. Also, just a note regarding school approved shirt - it's a different size from our PE shirt, and unless you're more large-sized than normal, get an S. S is big for most people. There are those who want XXXS! :)
Thanks a child, so I guess and hope that the s size will fit just nice, thanks again! -
I really like the culotte - looks like a pleated skirt. My daughter likes it too. Hence, she'll be wearing that with the PE Tee on Day 1. Naturally, I'll take the pain of the button away by fixing a hook.

Hi, everyone. My DD will be joining RGS next year. We are staying at Bedok and would like to look for buddies who are willing to share a cab to school every morning. We were thinking of getting a cab driver who could pick 3 to 4 girls at a fixed fee per month. It may cost a little more than school bus, but we donβt have to pay during school holidays and most importantly, our DD can wake up later in the morning.

Must you tug in the PE shirt or just let it out for relax look?

No need to tuck in PE. -
Hi Simply Me, Iβm interested too. Youβve a PM

Choco05:
You've got to tuck in all non-PE shirts thoughosim:

No need to tuck in PE.
Like House shirt, Orientation shirt, etc.
Also when you're wearing your pinafore remember to fold your sleeves up!
But yes, on the first week, at least for my year, I remember that nobody was booked for wearing the wrong things the wrong way or anything. In fact, we'd a 1-week grace period where we weren't even booked for being late to school
But of course, do try to be on time - and do take note that the first two days always has this horrendous jam so do go a little earlier!
And some other little (unrelated, completely random) happenings that comes to my mind -
In some of the D and E block toilets, the cubicles have both a normal shower head and a toilet. And there are two buttons, one for each. I guessed the wrong one and ended up getting all wet! And I wasn't the only Year 1 who made this mistake! But anyway just fyi, if I remember correctly the correct button for flushing the toilet is the lower one
And I also remember the ridiculously hard to button culottes button. I secretly left it unbuttoned the first few times, and you can't tell, because the button is covered by the shirt. I think I only managed to button it a month or two into the school year. (Embarrassing! But perhaps I wasn't alone in this \"little secret\".)
At least I didn't go to the wrong class in Year 1. (In P4 when I went to my new GEP school, the very very blur me went to the wrong class!)
