So far, my experience with male tutors is not as good as with female tutors. They are just not as hard working as female tutors. Maybe it is just our luck for not able to find good male tutors. This is on top of not feeling safe to leave our DS with male tutor alone at home.

              ngl2010:
Currently, does MOE conduct assessment for new teachers (including relief teachers) to make sure that no paedophiles is employed as school teachers?

i dun thk MOE or any organisation is able to do that. May i ask is there such assessment to check if one is morally upright, will not steal will not casue harm to others (harm can be in any form may it be sexual acts or verbal etc)? Honestly no one can guarantee. It really abt each individual's beliefs and core values and his reactions whn tempted.

Likewise how do we know our spouse will not do things we dun like? We married the person we love and think is the best person of our life and our partner thk likewise abt us. We cannot guarantee or do assessment for our other half or even ourselves sometime that we will not be a liar, alcoholic, wife/spouse abuser, cheater etc. Isnt it?

              Life...

So it is unfair for us to say \"why MOE is like that, cant screen teachers properly? Wow even schools are so unsafe\"..then we start n fall into thiss trap of telling our kids to dun trust people etc... kinda paranoid and sad. Let's put it this way: in this fallen world, everywher there are bound to have \"scary\" people.

What I would like to say is: as parents we can and we must impact the right and moral values to our kids. Also to teach our kids how to love themselves, to take care and protect themselves. We cant protect them forever.
and for those educators, leaders, people with authorities and those who have been trusted to serve (may it be MP, CEO, COO or pastors or nuns etc...): \"you are given great power/authority so it also come with great responsibilities.\"

I agree that there is simply no assessments that can determine a person's moral quotient. Even if there is such a test, an immoral person can easily lie his/her way out. Even a person is morally upright now, there is no guarantee he/she will fall to temptations in the future.

The recent spotlight on sexual offense on educators have definitely hurt the image of educators, especially those who are males. It impact me as well as a piano teacher as many parents are much more wary of employing male educators now.

I was discussing this recently with some friends and I think a solution that may be viable is controlled 'chemical castration' for educators. All people who are involved in education can be made to go under regular medication to suppress their sexual libidos and certificates will be issued to those who participate. This will also ensure that only the most dedicated will join the teaching profession as they will have make big personal sacrifices. I know this solution may be extreme, but it may be necessary in the future to safeguard the profession.

Wow don’t you think ‘chemical castration’ as you defined it a bit extreme,

Imagine yourself as a teacher/educator and think about it. Woud you volunteer to join such a program…?

Educators are human being too… Just because some foolish ones forgot their aim in joining the profession or let their baser urges guide the… We cannot punish the whole lot of education professionals…

Educators have their own families… They also need to have babies… And grow their family… Do you think a young lady or guy will join teaching profession if something like this came into a ruling… Or become mandatory?

My motto is : behave to others in manner which you want others to behave with you…
                    Just my honest opinion…

And what about cases of molest rape by doctors, neighbours, relatives etc… Can we apply this rule to them? Don’t think so…

As parent we can only teach our kids to be socially responsible. And hope that in future their actions do not harm anyone.

Indirectly, many have punished the 'whole lot of education profesionals'. As I have mentioned, parents are much more wary when it comes to male educators. I have had many enquiries rejected because I am male even though I make it mandatory for parents to sit in my lesson for young kids. The paranoia created by the recent media coverage is getting stronger and hence I propose the above solution. It is probably not feasible now as these 'chemical castration' drugs have serious side effects. But if in the future the drugs can work for a specified amount of time, let's say, 12 hours, I will be glad to participate.

I am really sorry to hear you are bearing the brunt just because you are a male tutor.

Just pity the narrow minded parents who are behaving in such unjust manner.

For me even though I am a women, I have nothing against the male professionals… Be at any field of work…

In fact I am proud to say that I had a male gynaecologist who help me deliver my 2nd child. I felt he was more professional then many lady doctors I met before him.

Hope people remember that recently there were cases where female instructors/tutors behaved intimately with their male students. So why are female tutors not shunned? Well I have no clue and answer to that…

Just hope we all have a more safe and morally sound society. And we are the bricks which will build the pillars of this society.

I will do my best to educate both my son and daughter about proper behaviour and social grace. But I cannot stop them or shield them completely from facing the ugliness in life…

Let them learn from their mistakes and encounters, and become better…
                        Wish you all the best!
Hope you will receive many offers from open minded, clear headed parents in the coming new year.

Wishing you a merry Christmas and happy new year!
