PSLE 2012 - Results Discussion

Surprisingly the same applied for my classmates(I’m in the 2012 P6 cohort)
Most of my classmates did as they were expected, but still there are some who did not do well. In the best mainstream class, many had 260-270.
For me, I was expected to be in the 250-260+ range but my T-score is 270. But the reason is most likely that I did not estimate well.
My school has VERY strict marking schemes for school exams, so it is not surprising that most of us did better than in prelims. What seemed to be unreasonable is that those who did well(in prelims) did better, and that those who did all right did worse in PSLE. Apparently there are more pupils scoring 260+ and around 240. -

that practise VERY strict marking scheme for school exam ? -
Last Thursday, we were at the school DD was posted to. Half way through the principal’s speech, my DD rested her head on my shoulder and insisted on going home. It broke my heart. Don’t know what is going to happen on the first day of school.
After PSLE, results life has come to a standstill. Holidays are burnt. -

I come from Nan Hua Primary. Yes, the marking scheme is really, very, absolutely strict and accurate(especially English and Chinese) and the Science paper is pretty difficult compared to the other schools. If they give us practice papers from other schools (NH exchanges CA&SA&Prelim papers with other schools) they sometimes even change the marking schemes to a higher standard.
Thank god, Maths is a breeze to most of us.

It is hard and painful to accept...even till now, washing the new uniforms didn't make me feel good. There is no sense of belonging and that pain still lingers. But as parents we have to encourage our kids to work harder in sec 1...forget all the unhappiness and work towards a better future in their new sec school. Primary school...PSLE is all over. My son wasn't enthusiastic attending the orientation last Thur.Last Thursday, we were at the school DD was posted to. If parents had already pumped in extra resources such as tuition and the kids still did not do well, shouldn’t the kids take responsibility to what happened?
I’m not taling about picking up the blame but rather reflect on what had gone wrong and try to work on a plan as they go into sec1 so that they do not bring along their shortcomings into sec1 and relive the whole scene again. -
Perhaps you should have set a higher target? My kid said her teachers told them to target 270. Only one boy managed to hit it. I told my kid to set a higher target than what she originally wanted bcos we almost always fall short of our target. But knowing that anything could happen for psle, we had our expectation low. I was prepared to see ‘200’ on the result slip bcos I didn’t want any disappointment to show. And any score would be a good score to me then.
I know no amount of words is going to make you feel better, but secondary school is a different ball game. 240 is by no means a bad score. She should be in a good class with kids with similar scores. And if it had been a trip-up at psle, she should do well at secondary level. Like what I had told my kid, it’s a clean slate. Everybody starts at a new starting line. Psle is over. This is the start of the real journey. -

I think the parents should take the responsibility for this. They should have checked to ensure that the tuition was effective. I am a hands-off mum but I make a point of giving my dd the past year papers during SA1 and SA2. From there, I can tell if the tuition is effective and her weaknesses. I take action from there.

Secondary level is a whole new ball game. Hopefully by then, many of our kids would have matured and become self-motivated. My dd is going to RGS and even over in that forum, the Seniors are saying it is a level playing field - whether you are GEP, top scorer, DSA or just made it through cutoff score.\" I think we should emphasise that point. PSLE is just one tiny step towards their future and would be history in no time. -
Secondary school is not just about scores. Scoring 230+ is considered good enough anyway. Work hard as 4 years can change many things!

Now it is time to put PSLE behind and look forward.
In addtional to the comment "new start for secondary", i believe that we could even take bad as good, such that those kids who didn’t do well are more matured becasue they have the first bitter feeling of down side of life itself. Nevertherless, we should adjust positively to enjoy the secondary study ahead.
Ler’s go forward for bright future.
