Hey everybody I'm new to this forum and also a new member. Anyways I need to ask (hopefully) parents of girls or the girls in sota dance, esp if they are a transfer student via ballet not ballroom Chinese dance etc. I am going to audition next march cos I'm yr 2, which means that I'll wish to transfer to sota in year 3. Ok I've got a few questions here and whoever can answer them thanks in advance!!

      1. What is the success rate in general for transfer students via ballet?
2.what is Sota looking for in a potential ballet student? Is the body shape taken into consideration and technique?etc
3.ive heard that some transfer cases have to repeat a year or two. Is it possible not to in yr 3?
      4. Idk but I'm only grade 6/ interfound standard. During the audition will my standards be pitted against the p6s since I'll be auditioning with them or will I be taken aside for a private audition and given a different set of more difficult exercises?
      5. Is It true only the very strong dance students get loads of opportunities like performing of stage and going overseas for exchange programmes while the average dancer does not?
      6. How long will the audition be(30min-1hr? Excluding modern) and what should I expect- barre/ centre?
      Hi Melissa,
Although I cannt help much on your questions (as my son is in music faculty), I think you should try your best for the audition. Dont worry too much on what the examiners will test on you, just focus, be yourself and do your best!
Maybe there is some Dance Faculty parents can advise here.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Those who have bought the uniform, pls ask your child to try again before washing. My son tried the long pants yesterday and found that theyโ€™re too tight. The pair he tried at the fitting session was ok. I think those at the fitting session have expanded or the cutting/sizing could vary from the ones we bought. Now got to make a trip down again on 27 Dec to change.

You have better chances of getting transferred in yr 3 instead of yr5. To date, none transferred in yr5 to my knowledge.

In order to get into yr5, you must be excellent in both academics and in the chosen art form.

They do schedule for auditions but so far none gets in or maybe none applied.

There is no actual COP but based on the school average, it is about 230 and above. Academic results is not all for entry into SOTA, you need a talent in the 4 art forms ie. Visual Arts, Music, Theatre and Dance. That's why entry to SOTA is strictly via auditions, TA - Talent Academy.

It is easier to gain entry in Sec 1 with a talent. As long as you have the talent in the various art form and an express stream results, ie. 200 and above, you get in. They can then train you for the next 4 yrs to prepare you for IB (yr5/6)during which if you can't meet or find difficulties in coping with the rigorous programme, you can still opt out to go to mainstream and that will not hinder your progress in education.

So, to all who likes the IB programme, audition to get in during P6 is the right thing to do. Of course, if you chose to audition in mid secondary years, your chances are slimmer and tougher as you have to match with those students who have been trained the IB way earlier (in academics).
