From past yrs infor, last 6-7 yrs, there was balloting under P2C for within 1km.

My dd1 will be P2 next yr. So far I like the school. My dd1 enjoys going to school too.

        Cassmania,

Adding on to Sahm_tan’s comments, I’m expecting competition to get worse. Previously, there was no balloting for 2B - but this is no longer true. I think there was balloting for 1-2km under this phase. For those in Phase 2C, it can get really nail biting because I think balloting for under 1km is a given.

I also stay within 1km of this school (though not sure which direction which you are in). On my end, this is considered one of the better schools. Things quite relaxed in the first few years (unless it’s self inflicted stress).

I do like the emphasis on Chinese culture which means more exposure on culture related stuff (eg kids get to learn chinese classical instruments, wushu, calligraphy) during lesson time.

This school focuses more on holistic development. It can get a bit under my skin when in the name of not focusing too much on academics, they don’t release some info. Concrete eg, I don’t know what my kid got for his compos in SA2 (Eng and chinese). I understand they dont’ want parents to stress overly on academics but hey, if I don’t know if my kid is having trouble with his compo, I won’t know if he needs help.

Repeating my qn again. Anyone knows if Logicmills is still training the students in Hong Wen? If yes, at which level?

              TQ 😄

After hearing replies to other queries, I kinda gave up hope asking marks related questions. To be fair, I didn't even try. As a wise mum told me, what mattered most is what I do with my kid.

Agree. But to add on that teachers are important too. 😄

                    Hi Cassmania,

My elder child will be in P3 next year, so far i find the teachers r good. My son had the same teachers for P1 and P2. The chinese teacher is really hardworking and attentive to the weaker students. I dont really find my son’s chinese poor, but he was one of the weaker one in his class. When he was in P2, he was selected to go for chinese tuition conducted by his chinese teacher after school. With the additional chinese lessons, he really improved in terms of reading and writing chinese. I really appreciate the extra efforts his chinese teacher put in.

                      Hi Sahm_Tan,

I didnt know what is Logicmills and did a search for it, and found that it is a learning centre. Did the learning centre teachers come down to Hong Wen and offer lessons to the students? Are they good? What were the fees like?

I think my son need more help in his comprehension and composition. Not too sure how i can help him .... wonder whether i shld let him attend additional lessons outside to brush up his understanding and writing skills. Any mummies have any suggestions? Thanks.

                        Hi Young,

Logicmills is a centre that develops thinking skills. They worked with several primary and secondary schools. I found out that they conducted classes in Hong Wen. There are 2 methods that they work with the schools. They either train the students or they train the teachers who will in turn train the teachers. I do not know which method they used for Hong Wen. I'm not sure abt the fees they charge in schools. But the fees they charge at their centre is $3,200 for 1 year.

I'm curious to find out if Hong Wen still engages their service and if yes, for which level. 😄

The centre conducted a study after working with a number of schools and reported 30% improvement in results.

I do not know which centres to recommend for compre and compo.

For compre, need to understand the passage and extract the answers out. I think most of the time, the student might be weak in inferring skillls. As for compo, need the combination of vocabulary, plot and grammar to craft a good piece of work. Plus, narrative writing is abt showing the story and not just telling the story.

I'm still finding my way for compre and compo. 😄
