Hong Wen

Hi Sahm_Tan,


I didnt know what is Logicmills and did a search for it, and found that it is a learning centre. Did the learning centre teachers come down to Hong Wen and offer lessons to the students? Are they good? What were the fees like?

I think my son need more help in his comprehension and composition. Not too sure how i can help him .... wonder whether i shld let him attend additional lessons outside to brush up his understanding and writing skills. Any mummies have any suggestions? Thanks.

Logicmills is a centre that develops thinking skills. They worked with several primary and secondary schools. I found out that they conducted classes in Hong Wen. There are 2 methods that they work with the schools. They either train the students or they train the teachers who will in turn train the teachers. I do not know which method they used for Hong Wen. I'm not sure abt the fees they charge in schools. But the fees they charge at their centre is $3,200 for 1 year.

I'm curious to find out if Hong Wen still engages their service and if yes, for which level.

The centre conducted a study after working with a number of schools and reported 30% improvement in results.

I do not know which centres to recommend for compre and compo.

For compre, need to understand the passage and extract the answers out. I think most of the time, the student might be weak in inferring skillls. As for compo, need the combination of vocabulary, plot and grammar to craft a good piece of work. Plus, narrative writing is abt showing the story and not just telling the story.

I'm still finding my way for compre and compo.

my girl started her P1. she said good, happy face... and told me she is not the shortest one in the class, she's the 3rd.... but the recess is @ the canteen and the food lined up on the table already... hmmmm... tot it will be in the class...


haha antoher surprise... and she manage to wake up by herself (coz me have start to train her to wake up early but she cldnt make it yah).... hope this will con't.... :xedfingers:

when walked her to the destinated bus stop to wait for the sch bus, told her to remember those gorgor, jiejie faces, she is the only P1 kid.... remember the bus no. when off sch to take bus... think me nag nag too much... she \"told me off\"... \"shh shh, i know\".... hmmmm....

a book list is given to prepare the books to bring to sch.... so the kids will do the work and gotta complete in the class.... no work to be done @ hm is it?

Based on last yr’s experience, most of school work will be done in school. If cannot complete in school will be brought home to do. The only exceptions are Show and Tell ( Eng and Chi), spelling and tingxie and tests. These teachers would request parents to guide.

show and tell - girl childcare ctr has this too, for eng and chinese… but me no prepare with her… lazy mummy… tr said she did well lor… articulate well… think is more talkative bah…

test? what is the frequence like? every mth?
spelling and ting xie will be weekly basis rite?

will there will extra help given to kids who is weak in the subject in P1? or wait till P2?

Homework teacher dependent. DS1 had done his work mostly in school but from time to time would still see him busy writing his 小习字; but noted after Minister said less homework, the volume seemed to go down. I had heard of other classes dishing out homework but we didn’t experience that.


What I like this year is the info sheet. Although we can get the email addresses from website, it’s a nice touch to know who are the teachers guiding our kids in various subjects.

2 years ago, they had LSP for P1 - kids who were deemed weak in subjects will be rounded up for LSP classes during classtime. Last year, I didn’t hear about LSP but there was this other one where kids supposed on each end of the spectrum got to go for classes after school. Got quite confused by all this.


Worry not until your child receives notification if she/he has to go.

Spelling and tingxie are every wk. The trs will provide the list with dates.


Test will start in term 2, along the timeframe of SA1, CA2 and SA2. DD1's trs gave her the timetable when tests are near. So excluding term 1, can estimate, every 10 wks or so bah.

Last year, there was LSP for P1s, for those who need help in maths and eng. Chi, has 3 levels but I'm not sure if that start in P1 or P2.

From P2 onwards, there's the STRETCH prog. It's to help the academically weak student and the academically very strong student.

It was shared that the child will be in STRETCH for a particular subject if the child fail it. But it was not shared how they select the academically very strong student. :evil:
